PPI Reclaiming Discussion part 4

  • Hi all,
I'm new to posting on this forum. I've been following it and the PPI successes for a couple of months now- it's been really useful in helping me to pursue claims against a number of credit card and loan companies.
I used the initial template letter in my complaints.
Today I've recived the first letter back -it's from GE Money.
They say that "whilst GE Money provided the finance to you for the PPI, GE Money did not sell it to you"
They say that, for this reason, they won't investigate the complaint. They direct me to Loans.co.uk who originally sold the PPI, they say. They say that this is their Final Response Letter. It's a bit annoying that it's taken them basically 6 weeks to reply only to say it's not their problem!

I can't tell if this is a valid point or just a tactic!!
My question is this- is this just an attempt to pass the buck and fob me off? Should I write back to them and say I don't accept this? Or should I just focus on lodging the complaint again with Loans.co.uk?

Any help or advice would be gratefully recived.
    Thanks,
    Clare
  • Hi all,

First time reclaiming to Nat West for mis sold PPI.

Just been into my local branch to hand in a letter requesting all my loan information.

The lady on the desk asked my what the letter was about so that she could handle it correctly and I told her.

She sniggered a little as asked if I had been getting marketing calls off one of them companies that rip you off to which I replied I was per suing this myself.

She told me I was wasting my time as all Natwest staff have been trained not to sell PPI but to offer if needed. I replied well if it costs me a stamp or so and 30 mins of my time its worth a go and she said back well its more than 30 mins of our time!! Rude!!

She said she would post the letter to the correct department and finished with " lets see how this effects your relationship with the bank"!!

I have now posted a letter recorded delivery to the loan centre of natwest requesting my details as I dont have much faith in that lady passing my letter on.

Is this kind of treatment normal???

    Thanks and good luck everyone!

I too am pursuining Natwest with regards to a loan. I find the bank absolutely terrible to deal with. I am in the process of leaving them and I've been with them since 1991. Visited the branch on Monday and find the staff so sullen. Tried to take myself off an Advantge Gold account down to current account. As they upgraded me without permission and have been charging me £12 a month to look after my money. She said had I seen the benefits? I did not know I had them for 3 years and so have bought travel insurance unnecessarily etc. 'Helpful banking'?????

I have posted mine straight to the customer relations centre. It is Freepost, they then direct into relevent department.

I also tried to e-mail but that was a complete waste of time.

They have rejected one of my claims so I have sent letter asking to reconsider. As much good as that will do! But you keep persevering!

The help you get on here is absolutely fantastic.

    Good Luck with your complaint.

    Hi Clare

Yes its the ones who set the policy up that are usually responsible.

However, they could have forwarded your letter on to them couldn't they? the muppets.

So complete the questionnaire, this is instead of the using reclaiming template letters and issued by the Financial ombudsman service (FOS) for this purpost, you complete, save a copy for yourself as well, and send to loans.co.uk.
They have as usual the 8 weeks to investigate.

The FOS questionnaire - below link - further down the page as stage one.
Hope this helps and good luck, keep at them.

    Hi Ruby

I agree with amersall, that is absolutely disgusting!!!!

I am so annoyed to hear of this attitude, if I were you, make a note in writing of that, keep this in case you need to complain further.

However, I understand its a way of getting your reclaim sorted out by taking it to your branch, but if you do have a copy of it maybe you should send to the head office or if they do have a complaints dept send to them, just in case she have not dealt with it.
Remember as well, they have 8 weeks in full to respond.

If they do not resolve in your favour by the time you receive a final decision, then complain to the Financial ombudsman service (FOS) and I would certainly add the attitude of their so called "trained staff", because no its not normal at all.
They have a lending code to follow to treat customers fairly.

I would also be inclined to make a report on this to both the FSA and the Office of Fair Trading.

Good luck with this Ruby, please keep us posted.;)

Thanks to all that have commented.

I have made a formal complaint about the member of staffs treatment to me and I have made a memo so that I can use with any other correspondence that I need to send.

I may not get a penny back but if you dont ask you dont get, right?

After that ladies treatment I could imagine a lot of people would take her word as gospel and leave it as that.

So thank the lord for MSE and this forum of lovely people!!
