PPI Reclaiming Discussion part 4

annetta123 wrote: »Hello everyone,
I have had loans in the past as well as my credit cards (which I still have) I had a loan with HSBC and another with EGG I can't recall if I had them both at the same time. My main question concerns the fact that although these loans have long since been repaid - in or around 2002/3 I can't now remember how much the respective loans were for - though I know quite substantial, and I can't remember when I paid them off in full. I used some of my early retirement payment to clear them, this I do remember.
I retired early in 2002 at the age of 53 and I am now 61. In addition to claiming or trying to claim the PPI from these loans, I would be looking at claiming them back from my credit card companies of which there are five. Two of those PPIs have only recently been cancelled by me.
Whilst I was in full employment, the PPI would not have benefited me in any case as I was a Civil Servant and was paid my salary even if off sick, short or long term. The only benefit perhaps would have been the death benefit which was included with any PPI - however, again if I died whilst still employed my husband would have received 4 times my annual salary as a lump sum - therefore, PPI even for the death benefit was not necessary.
I don't know how or where to begin to claim PPI from e.g. HSBC or EGG in the first instance, as I can't remember the year I took these out.???
Has anyone read my above post?
Or did I miss something? A simple 'sorry we can't help would suffice'.0 -
Hi... I have recently been cold called by Money Claiming Experts about being miss-sold PPI. I have agreed to go through them, but was told in another forum that I can reclaim myself for free.
I am just wondering if any of you will help me understand what I need to do.
I have a £3000 loan with Halifax and have a Credit card with them also.
I also have an Outfit card and New Look card which I believe are from GE Money.
I then also have a Debenhams Credit Card.
They will have all been in the last 3 years.
I have read all of Martin's notes, but I am still confussed with it.
The guy I spoke to on the phone rekons I am looking at a £3000plus refund, but I don't know how he calculated that.
What I am looking for is, can I do this easily on my own, or should I just pay Money Claiming Experts to do it.
Please help.
(P.S. I agreed to them yesterday, so I have 14 days from then to cancel)0 -

Hi annetta
Sorry if we missed your post, I may have replied but can't remember sorry, so many lol.
Well I would give it a go with the reclaiming, also due to the fact that you were already protected, the finance/bank did not obviously discuss this with you, if they had then you would have had the opportunity to have opted out due to this reason of already been protected etc.
So basically just as long as you still have the account number you can continue to pursue your reclaim to whoever sold you the policy by completing the FOS questionnaire, these are used now instead of template letters.
You will find the questionnaire on the link below further down the page as Stage one, they have 8 weeks in full to respond, remember to keep a copy as well in case you need to refer to it later on, and post by recorded delivery - this is your proof of posting.

Give it a go, hope this helps, good luck and ask for further help if required.;)The one and only "Dizzy Di"0 -

Hi there
I would personally give it a go yourself where if successful you will get to keep all of your refund plus interest etc.
Many on here have had no ends of problems using claims companies and still waiting 2 years down the line and of course they have to pay out on success.
There are lots of threads on here where people have posted up of their bad experiences of using claims companies.
All you do is pursue to whoever sold and set up your policy, by completing a FOS questionniare, these are now used instead of reclaiming letters, and the financial ombudsman service (FOS) set these questionnaires up for this purpose, you will find this on the link below, further down the page as stage one of the reclaiming, complete and save a copy, they have 8 weeks in full to respond, and post by recorded delivery, for your proof of posting.

Its all your own efforts too.;)
Good luck. The one and only "Dizzy Di"0 -
So just to get this right... I don't need to send any letters to them. All I need to do is send the FOS to my providers for each of my Credit Cards, Store Cards and loan?
And you would advise sending them by recorded delivery for each of them.
Or should I group all the halifax and the GE money ones together?
Thanks for your help.0 -

Hi there
And yes the questionnaires are now the first step to the reclaiming and quite new issued by the FOS for this purpose, however you can write a reclaim letter if you want to, in your own words.
The reason why I suggest recorded delivery is the fact that you can check the status of safe delivery on the Royal mail site "Track and Trace" and as the business have 8 weeks to respond they therefore cannot deny on receiving your reclaim, and you can take the 8 weeks from when they received your request.
So whoever set up and sold the policies is the ones you send to.;)
Oh remember to keep copies as well. The one and only "Dizzy Di"0 -

Hi All, Looking for some advice please. I took out a loan with Hsbc which finished about 5 1/2 years ago and at the time I applied for the loan was told I would more and likely have the loan request turned down unless I took out the PPI. I still bank with Hsbc with the same accounts the loan was connected to, but unfortunately do not have any information on the loan itself. Do you think it is possible for me to contact Hsbc and request the information on this old loan, and then maybe try to get my PPI refunded?.
Also I had a capital one credit card for around 6 years with PPI taken out, but after going through a bit of a bad patch the card went into default and was passed onto a debt collector around 6 months ago. Do you know if it would be possible to ask Capital one for a refund on the 6 years PPI paid?.
Thank you any advice will be much appreciated0 -
Thank you for your reply - I'll give it a go, now I need to look for the old account which is probably still in my filing cabinet.
Thanks again. I appreciate your input.0
