PPI Reclaiming Discussion part 4

  • I have two claims ongoing at the moment. One with Tesco and the other with Barclays.

I've had a nice letter from Tesco advising me that they have investigated my claim and don't uphold the complaint but as a good will gesture they will re-credit all of the PPI I have paid so far (just over £1400) to the outstanding balance and ensure that the PPI is taken off the loan therefore reducing my monthly payments.

However, Barclays have not been so accomodating offering me a new loan agreement minus PPI for the outstanding balance but no offer of a refund for what I've paid so far.

While, I'm fairly happy with the Tesco offer, I think Barclays could be a bit more flexible. What should i do???

    Hi all :)

At the end of January I sent off a couple of letters to reclam PPI from RBS and Sainsbury's Bank for loans I had had with each.

RBS responded within a week or so and advised would look into the claim, but I didn't hear anything from Sainbury's.

Have received a letter the end of last week from Bank of Scotland who I assume have responsiblity for Sainbury's Bank?

Anyway, what they have said is "that they hope to look into my concerns as quickly as possible but it will take some time. The FSA allow us to take upto 8 weeks to investigate and that intend to deal with it within that time and they will update me"

Am wondering would you assume this would be from when I initially sent the letter (giving a few days fro receipt) or from the date that they have acknowledged my claim some 7 weeks later?

Am happy to give some leeway as I had written to Sainsbury's initially, but wondered what others experiences are with them?

    Hi and welcome

Well done on your Tesco Success - Congratulations :T:j

If that was not the final response from Barclays, write back to ask them to reconsider and try to give them further details on your reasons you given on your first letter, you always have the FOS to take this if your not happy with the final decision, good luck.;)

    Hi there

Good luck with all of your reclaims.

That is correct, they all have 8 weeks in full to respond, some will respond sooner and some will request for extra time, however once 8 weeks have passed you should be able to take your complaint to the FOS if you still hear nothing, but its up to you if you then want to give them a little longer, as many have backlogs of these complaints to deal with.

Some take 8 weeks as from the date on the letter, and others when they receive them.

    Hope this helps, good luck.;)

    Hello all

Just a quick question if you don't mind.

My sister-in-law sent a letter to Barclays in September re PPI reclaiming.

They are not being very forthcoming with updates on the status of the claim and in fact haven't been in touch since October.

We've sent a chasing letter to them today, but I just wondered if there is any time period that we must initiate a Financial Ombudsman claim within? We're going to try and avoid going down that road until we receive a proper response, as I know how long the FOS process is, but I was unsure if we needed to log our details with the FOS within 6 months of us writing to Barclays, for example.

    Does anybody know?

    Thank you!

    Hi Silverbird

I would tell your sister to contact the FOS to write to the bank on her behalf for a final response, if your sister explains that she have not taken it to them yet, its because she is still waiting for the final decision with the details of the FOS.
Your sister can ask the FOS to write on her behalf, this should get them thinking and moving with a bit of luck.

Fingers crossed, please let us know when your sister hears.
    Cheers.:)

  • I filled in the usual forms, and to be honest, the service was pretty good taking just 4 months to recover £3.5k from MBNA

    Two points to think about:
One: Make sure you can afford to pay them, because any money won will come off your balances.
Two: Remember to Add 17.5% VAT onto the 25% they charge...

Now the bad side: I received an invoice on Friday 06th March, dated 02nd March. On the same day I received an email with the following language:

I have been trying to email and call you regarding outstanding invoice you have with us claim reference : and

You do need to give me a call regarding this , failure to this matter will be escalated to legal department and you will be incurring daily interest charge on your invoice

For any further clarity please let me know on 08458740095 and ask for Abi, I am dealing with your invoice

Naturally I was a bit aggrieved about this and rang, only to be told that it was standard practice. I then received similar emails every day.

So good service upfront, but afterwards, service akin to a large bloke called 'Dodger' turning up at your door with a cricket bat and a Staffordshire Bull Terrier.

Eventually I ended up making them wait for 13/14 days for the cheque, and for every email they sent me, I sent at least fifty back deploring their aftersales service... Childish maybe, but (for me) morally satisfying.
