RSPCA in Scotland - I didn't know this.

I might well be telling you all what you already know but I was a bit surprised to get a mailing from the Scottish SPCA saying that the RSPCA advertise heavily in Scotland for donations (I had actually seen the tv ad quite frequently lately) but not one penny will get spent helping any animals in Scotland.

I didn't realise this was an England /Wales only organisation.

Now an animal in need, is an animal in need the world over, but it seems the Scottish SPCA are suffering more now simply because they dont have enough funds to help their animals. A lot of people just give to the RSPCA thinking it's a UK wide aid system for animals.

It's a shame if more animals in Scotland end up being put to sleep simply because the people who donate to the RSPCA might be under the impression they are helping animals all over, yet this isn't the case and the Scottish animals have less funding for care?

Dont mean for this to sound like a Scottish / English divide btw, I just thought it might be worth pointing out?

Its similar to many differences with them being a different country.

The Scottish get free prescriptions and dentistry.....so its swings and roundabouts.

My point is though that people may not be aware of the differences.

At least with human prescriptions etc, people know what the situation is.

Charitable donations are a completely different ballgame and I just think people should be aware that the RSPCA will not help an animal in Scotland even although they heavily advertise for financial support in Scotland.

If Scottish people want to support an animal charity regardless, that's fine. I just thought it prudent to clarify this as it's certainly not something I knew.

This is a popular misconception. I pay for my prescriptions although the Scottish Government say they will phase them out gradually over the course of a few years. The normal dental check up is free but we stil have to pay for any dental work.

Assuming, of course that you can get an nhs dentist!!

I wasn't aware that the SSPCA was struggling so much so thanks to the OP for highlighting this. Well worth pointing out the difference so that people can be sure to support the sspca as their work is equally vital.

The fact might not be correct......Im not entirely sure although I was aware of them trying for it.....it was the point I was making that it isnt the same as England as it is a different country.

RSPCA stands for the Royal Society.....blah blah with 'Royal' being the clue.

The Queen is the Queen of England.

Therefore, the RSPCA deals with animals in the country it serves. Why would people assume that money given to the RSPCA is handed out to animals of a different country?

Would you honestly be happy if you handed money to the RSPCA and some of that money went to China?

You've just made my point for me again.

Scottish people hand money to the RSPCA and it goes to England/Wales.

    Same thing?

The RSPCA does not make this clear when advertising in Scotland. It's a bit off to say 'give us your money please but sorry we wont be helping your animals' which is probably exactly why they dont say it.

  • The Queen is the Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, i.e. Scotland too, and also Australia. NOT just England.
And I think the point of the OP is that why should the RSPCA advertise for sponsorship in Scotland when none of the money actually goes there.

Ahhhh ok....I see what you mean now. I got it mixed up then.

Yes of course, if people from Scotland are contributing to the charity then they would expect some reciprications. Of course, thats how it works across Europe....and England are much closer tied to Scotland.
