Are the Out of Stock items really Out of Stock now or has Dan just put a stop on some items while he catches up? I'm confused now!
Can only get half the stuff i want in my basket as the rest is OOS so not worth an order.

Is a bit hard to tell really.without ringing up and finding out, some will have been stopped items, some reordered so back in stock now, probably some planning to order so keeping on site.
While trying not to blow my own trumpet, I suggested some sort of an item reservation scheme here: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=18241843&postcount=1540
I find the thing that disappoints me the most about AF is the uncertainty of getting an item you really want if you think there are other items coming soon you want to get, or none you want just at the moment. If AF had this sort of scheme or similar, it might help things from the customer side, and possibly from AF's side as people will make less small orders just to make sure they get a must needed item, and instead get a larger order a little later with the reserved item included.
I didn't get any comments on it before - probably bigger concerns at the time but if enough people here liked it and stated so, Dan is more likely to look into if it's worth his effort to implement. That is if this rush ever settles down enough for him to look elsewhere than the short term. So any comments, criticisms, improvements are welcome0 -
from what I can see from when i have been using the AF website the system now in place is that once an order has been paid for that amount of stock is removed from the running total on the stock sheet; which is why the other day it said only 1 tin of beans left.
the items which are not coming back will be removed, but the items which AF can get hold of more of are left on the site just showing oos until such a time that the new qunatity is delivered and can be added in to the major stock list.
Most stores run a similar stock system to this I think from where I have worked;
customer a buys 2 of brand x - stock was 7 now 5
customer b buys 5 of brand x - stock was 5 now 0 - technically oos
new delivery comes in of brand x of 200 - stock was 0 now 200
The only way to guarentee that you as the customer will receive what is in you basket is to pay for the goods there and then.
Obviously if this does not happen and other customers buy stock in the meantime then the items will be taken from your basket to be used for those other customers.
Worth maybe keeping a note of what you thought about ordering and then double checking the basket before payment and aisle to see if more stock has been received.
Sorry for long post but I thought this might help people with the oos items.
I have no connection with AF, have just used them as a customer.
I'm sure Dan or someone from AF will correct me if this is not right. My self & hubby; 2 sons (30 & 26). Hubby also a found daughter (37).

I really wanted the orange juice with bits but it vanished very soon after appearing, now it says no honey either! I always seem to miss the boat! I knew I should have ordered when I first saw that honey, but my husband may have raised his eyebrows at two orders in one week...0

The beans have run out of stock again.
Might need a rationing rather than reservation system the speed some items go.
Would have warmed my poor old grannies heart to see a ration book again if the poor dear had lived. (some old folk seem to enjoy telling you just how grim they had it - its one of the signs I am looking out for to see if I'm an old git yet )0 -
