  • 60 Things done. Lots of bits of paper, bus tickets and bits and bobs. Still haven't braved the make-up bag...

Boyfriend has gone to the pub for 'a few' with a mate from back up North (or further up North depending on how you look at these things - IMO anywhere south of leeds is South). So I have a couple of hours to catch up on flying, studying and tv watching.

Keep checking my uni email address to see if any of my lectures tomorrow are cancelled. I'm in 10-1 and then have 2 hours before my last hour, so trying to decide if i'll come home in between or work in the library. I'd only get an hour at home so might hang around I think.

Next washing machine question - Where do I get soda crystals (?) and what type of vinegar do I use to clean it?

ETA - Tart question - does a normal oil burner work with them or do I need a proper burner? Are they safer than scented candles/ oil burners? I never heard of wax tarts til I came on here, but I LOVE candles!

Its washing soda and its near the washing powders etc about 56-60p a bag. Its white vinegar you need
We don't need to do it perfectly - good enough is exactly that GOOD ENOUGH.

  • carol soda crystals are in the cleaning aisle in asda or tesco or any big supermarket and its white vinegar as its less smelly but you can use the brown stuff
    toots xx

  • That reminds me - the rubbery bit round the hole in the washing machine is going moldy. I think that water collects there duing the cycle and cant get out again. Is it too late to do anything about it? can I stop it getting worse?
    Thanks for your help.

Like to know how he did that, We can't even get enough staff let alone insist they live within walking distance. In my school of approx 100 plus teachers and other necessary staff only about 5-10 live within walking distance!
I'm sure lots of our teachers would love to live nearer the school but housing nearby is very expensive so lots of them live 30 minutes north where it is cheaper.

Carol - as an aromatherapist i've always just used an oil burner with essential oils and water but I got an electric tart burner for my birthday and I'm hooked. This one is good because there is no flame involved. I've learnt to leave it on until it just melts and then turn it off...it lasts ages then. You can use any burner so long as it's deep and then just melt it with a tea light underneath.

Toots - if you get the chance to try Jack Frost it's lovely - kind of pepperminty but not too much if you know what I mean. I got mine for 89p online. Of course, I use them for work so put them through my books - i'd never just have them burning in the house unless I was testing them to make sure they aren't over powering which is what i'm doing now!!!:D

Bleurgh, can i join the i have a cold club:rolleyes:
Feel rotten and i just spent the past hour trying and failing to get my bunged up head round conditional probabilities.

    Carlsberggal - lovely photos.
Cazzie - sorry to hear about your friend, as others have said i'm sure she will appreciate whatever gesture you make, however insignificant you may think it is.
Fedup - ouch! Hope you are taking it easy.
    Dusty - is hubby better?
Soappie - very impressed with the tiling! Do you want to come and do my bathroom:p

LO's school was open today, we had loads of snow but it didnt really lie properly here, it did at uni though! Was about 4 inches when i left.
LO is under the weather again, she seems to get everything going. She really needs surgery but they wont operate when she is ill because of the risks of a general anaesthetic. They want at least 4 weeks after her pneumonia to be sure she is fine. We are hoping to get a clinic appt on wednesday so the surgeon can assess her, dont like seeing her in pain:(

Not done much flying today, couple of loads of washing, hoovered sofa covers, S&S'd kitchen.

I'm sure there is a minimum staff/pupil ratio, and I'm sure there is lots of debate, but there is a practical solution in this kind of situation (other than sending everyone round to Pigpen's house), which is to ask teachers, volunteers and children to go to their nearest school to avoid unnecessary travel, and to have some kind of general classes that can be taught to mixed age groups available (downloadable maybe?!) for these occasions. OK, so someone may miss out on GCSE physics because their local school is a primary school, but they may learn more about social responsiblity/community etc (and possibly how to cook...;) ).... anyway, just an idea, I can see that there will be endless debate on this!

Now THAT is an excellent idea... You have MY vote for prime minister Miss Greenbee - that is what we used to do on days like this - sit in the school hall and learn together if there were not enough teachers - it was fun and we learned because of that... but like you say, lots of personal opinions from both sides of the fence that will never agree I suppose...

When my kids were young, I always had friends who would have my kids if I was at work and they were at home. Then I'd have their kids at weekends, sleep overs, holidays etc ...it all worked out in the end. I had one of DD's friends for 2 weeks when her home was being underpinned, had another friend of mine with her 5 kids for 2 weeks when she was homeless [that meant 3 adults and 8 kids in a terrace house]and another of DD's friends when her mother took a much needed holiday.

We used to do this too - I remember my mum used to look after neighbours kids while their mum was at work and she did the same for us while my mum worked - they job shared too so there was always someone about... much better than just staying in with my sister (who of course I hated because she was 2 years younger than me and my sister... :rotfl: we love each other now of course...)
