thieving flatmates

  • I had a wonderful  8 weeks spent with a female flatmate who would bring back her boyfriends 6/7 nights a week (she had 3 boyfriends during the 8 weeks we lived there), drop vinegar and tomato ketchup on my £200 woven rug and not bother doing anything about it in front of me, another rug I one day left in the hallway to hide the router wires and it ends up being her foot towel for when she gets out the shower, constantly using my towels if I left them in the bathroom, the day I moved in the whole bathroom was SURROUNDED by her beauty products and I had to make space for mine, she would hardly ever wash up, she decided she wanted to do all the clothes washing for her friend and her 2 kids (even though we didnt even have enough room to dry our own stuff), 2 occasions she left the windows open and went out, my rent wallet ended up being strewn on her bedroom floor after shes given the landlord the rent, the final straw was when her 'boyfriend' took my rent money and left hers, and she shouts abuse down the phone at me like a mad woman when I say I'm moving out, and she wants to chuck my belongings out into the street.

After that 8 weeks I have learnt.... NEVER LIVE WITH SCUM WHO ABUSE YOUR STUFF AND TAKE THE WEE WEE. Ive learnt now. I know I have been too good to people in the past.
    Whether we win or lose,
that we played at all was a winning decision. :D

Hmm after reading some of the experiences on here it makes me glad I'm so big! Being 6'2" and 18stone certainly helps when "persuading" people that they really don't want to eat your food!

:rotfl: I lived with a girl whose boyfriend left a used condom in a wicker basket full of clean towels, in our bathroom the day my mum was coming round. LOVELY.

What was wrong with the bin behind him, I don't know.
  • I just keep as much as poss in my room.
  • Hi all,

these posts have certainly raised a smile. It is true it isn't just Uni house shares that can be a nightmare!

I lived with my boyfriend and aonother couple in a house share set up for work. I used to get really hacked off as although they would wash up after their dinner they seemed to have a disregard for wiping the sides down or cleaning up spills. Also they wouldn't contribute to the cleaning of the communal areas such as living room. The most vile thing I came across though was a piece of loo paper on the floor in the bathroom. It was covered in s*** and had just been left on the floor.

I had a major rant that day. Result was they did a moonlight flit! No skin of my nose as was a share through work so didn't lose any £££

I shared a house with a friend for 2 years. Generally fine. some food we shared and some we bought as our own but we knew which treats not to touch. Only annoying thing...........1) she used to have such smelly wind it actually made me cry and 2) the most noisy person in the bedroom. I wasn't best pleased to be kept up all night when I had to leave for a flight at 7am!!!!!!

Now living with my OH and unfortunately as most will tell you, living with anyone has its moments and for me his inability to clean the bathroom is one irk. Mind you I can be a bit shy of washing up sometimes too!!!!

I totally agree that leaving notes cause more bother than they're worth. They're quite funny sometimes though.

This website brings some laughs http://www.passiveaggressivenotes.com/
We have that "I lick my cheese" book in our living room, house warming present from my mam. Its really funny!
I can go one worse than spitting in the mayo - get a male friend to knock one off into a jar of mayo ;)

I can also say that I had experience of this! I was the only girl in the entire block of flats I lived in first year! And we had one flatmate that liked to eat everyone else's food... so this happened quite often!!

I wanted to make a nice fryup this morning and someones used my frying pans. Last night I wanted to have rice and meatballs but someone has used my pans.

I want to put my food on my plate (I got fish and chips from the chippy), I have 1 plate left - I came with 4. I had 4 sets of knives and forks, I now have 2.

I know what you mean, I have 2 knives and no forks out of a set of 4, my spoons are safe since they spend most time in mugs in my room. The only way seems to be to hide them but its not much fun

Do you guys not realise that its part of being a student losing forks? I swear I have mysteriously lost absolutely millions of forks, and end up with more spoons than I came with. Are they morphing themselves or something?! :rotfl:

Its not just flatsharers that make the cutlery disappear - part of my duties in one of my jobs was to look after the kitchen area (ie. sort the dishwasher out, order food, stock fridge and cash up at the end of the day. Forks and teaspoons always disappeared - I must have replaced a ton of the things over the 2 years I was there:rolleyes: Mugs too ended up in labs growing fur coats - now considering that they weren't supposed to eat or drink in the labs then I felt sure that they were being used because they had run out of petri dishes:eek:

Oh and they used to steal food too on occasion - although if I had sandwiches that had to be used by that day, when I cashed up they would be left for folks to help themselves.

If you share a flat then the way to stop people pinching your mayo etc is to add blue food colouring to it (it looks awful but tastes the same). Do this a few times and they should stop pinching. Another thing to do is to invest in some traditional mousetraps - they ping on your fingers if you have dabbed them where they don't belong:rotfl:

Stealing food isnt just limited to flatshares either - when my chap comes to stay (it isnt that often) the first thing he does is go to the pantry, if I have left a bag of crisps in there then it will be gobbled up, his next stop is the fridge and if there is anything that he wants ie. cake or cheesecake - he will get it out of the fridge, grab a spoon and stand there shovelling it into his mouth. Now when I go to his place, I end up cleaning out the fridge and getting rid of the rotten food and giving it a damn good scrub (there's no food in there for me).

Argh I think I may have to move into halls, this is everything I dread! (plus all the mess and all the noise)

This is very true, my first year at halls wasn't great sometimes, speically at the earlly hours. just get the security's number and complain. I even went into the people flat underneath mine and took there stereo, and left a note saying "you can have it back when you agree not to play it after 12.00". after that it never happened again.

Stealing food from others is not very good, it will not stop until you say something. It is the best way, maybe just knock on there door and ask to have a chat. :o
