  • Happy Birthday N9eav:bdaycake: :bdaycake: It's my lovely sis-in-law Val in Bromley's birthday today as well I shall phone her shortly.

Chrisca: I too have used workmen from the Medway Council Fair-Trade site, and found them very good. Its an excellant idea and I have found no problems at all using anyone from there

Lillibet: I have been listening to The archers on a Sunday morning for years, usually while peeling the spuds.Radio four is such a good station to have on whilst doing other things and I love the plays in the afternoon.I usually am sitting down with my knitting then

Well, waiting for the snow to start it hasn't arrived yet in North Kent .Will be going to my youngest DD's this afternoon for dinner tonight.
Hope it's not too heavy when I come out to come home. I think I will leave my heating on when I go out so it will be warm when I come home.
SC on and cooking some HM leek and tattie soup for the freezer. I'm just going to have a nice hot shower to warm up a bit as its rather chilly ATM
then I shall sort out my crafting bag as my DD gave me lots of those little chinese clear plastic boxes with lids for the small bits and bobs.
Apart from that not a lot to do today.Hope everyone keeps wrapped up and has a nice Sunday.Take care

    :bdaycake: HAPPY BIRTHDAY N9EAV!
Sunday roast for 15?! Sounds like you'll have your work cut out for you! Good luck with it! _party_

Tru - I used to make my own vacuum cleaner bags too! After it conked out I got a freecycled bagless one, I have to admit I don't miss all that faffing about one bit :rotfl:

It. Is. Cold. I am impressed that anyone is considering even going out in it! I have just had to go out and smash the ice covering the bird bath, and apart from nipping out for some catfood I don't intend to venture out again! But on the gardening front, some of my seedlings have already appeared! :j Looks like all of the chard to come through so far is red though, which I'm disappointed by, I was hoping for a bit of variety. Also we got two raspberry and two blackcurrent canes yesterday, only 75p each :) but I think I'll wait until this cold snap has passed before planting them out.

Yesterday we went and had a look at the co-op. It's sort of one the way home from the butcher's, so OH can take me once a fortnight or so (too far to walk, bus services decidedly difficult and expensive to get there). Lots of the prices weren't so bad at all, maybe a few pence over what Mr T and co charge, which I can bear, but there were one or two things that I am going to have to rethink. Bread flour is going to cost me a lot more - they only had the Allinsons' extra strong stuff, the price was about the same as elsewhere but it's expensive flour to start with! Also they don't sell yeast. And washing up liquid - the only eco-friendly one they had was ecover, again about the same price as elsewhere but I hate ecover washing up liquid, I don't think it's very good at all. So I think I can probably make my own washing up liquid (going to research that today) but I need to find a better source of bread flour, else re-jiggle the household budget again. It's not easy being ethical, is it?!

I'm not making a roast today, actually my plans have all got a bit messed up and I'm a little annoyed by it. This is going to make me sound mean but I need to get it off my chest anyway. We've got a friend, she's much older than us, to be honest she's not someone either of us would have chosen for a friend, but she used to work with Dave and started just turning up at our house every now and then. She seems to be pretty lonely so I don't usually mind too much, though I do feel like she uses us a tea-room. But last night she really did my head in. She turned up out of the blue about 5 o clock, ignored all of my hints about having the dinner on, and announced that she'd forgotten her sister's birthday and she needed me to 'find' her a gift. So I went through all of my Avon stash and offered her a bag, a pair of earrings, or a smellies gift set. After rejecting them all, she announces bold as brass that actually, I've got a set of tumblers she thinks her sister would like and will I sell them to her! I thought she was joking, so I laughed, then she asked again. So this time I just said no. Then she starts asking 'pretty please' like she's five years old and not fifty, like I'll just say well, they were a setting-up-home gift from my mum but sure, you can have them! Then - and this is what got me really fuming - she says, well, you never use them, I don't see why I can't have them, Dave always moans about them anyway. He doesn't, he only teases me because I'm so careful with them, and even if he did it's none of her business and it doesn't give her the right to demand them off me. And I'd had my candle on for Tristan and she asked what I was doing, so I told her, and she gave me a long lecture on how it won't help because I'm not religious like she is! !!!!!!!!!!!!! I had to really restrain myself from booting her out the house, I just told her that my beliefs were none of her business, and I suppose I did get a bit sulky with her after that but I don't feel bad about that one little bit. Then it turns out Dave mentioned that we're having french onion soup for tea tonight and she asked Dave if we could have it for supper instead so she could come round for some after work... and he said yes. So now instead of cooked breakfast this morning then french onion soup for tea, I now have to find an extra meal to keep us going through the afternoon, then be all smiley and polite to someone who I really do feel offended me last night. I tried mentioning it to Dave and he just said, oh you know what she's like, she's got no people skills, just ignore it. But I feel as if I'm always having to excuse her behaviour, and if I ever try to mention to her that she's behaved badly she always manages to turn it around to make me feel bad. At the moment I feel used and that I don't really like her very much. Anyway, I just wanted to get all that off my chest. Sorry for such a long rant.

Diva - hugs to you and Tristan, I'm thinking of you, candle or no candle xxx

Hope everyone has a better day than I think I will xxx

Morning all...................((((((((((((((((((((HUGS))))))))))))))))) if you need one.

Very late getting up this morning, did not wake until after 9.30, so only just had brekkie.....OH is in the shower raring to go for a walk, and its ery grey and cold looking......I am nice and warm....don't want to go out in the nasty cold........

OH went all day yesterday and then had a dizzy just before supper, so I had to re-heat his when he got up........ok ths morning so far......

Nothing on the books for today apart from sorting out the laundry basket, might do a couple of loads, the laundry tends not to be too busy on a Sunday and the bin is overflowing.

Pork chops with all the trimmings for supper tonight.......no sure whats for pud yet will have a rake in the freezer see what I can find, could do babana splits, have some bananas. Leek and lentil soup with HM bread for lunch......

Have not read the thread yet off to do that now...cheers.............

Silver - some people are just so thick skinned they don't take no for an answer. Sorry but I would have told her to shift her a*** out of my house and not come back.....cheek of the woman..........when I was married to no 1 husband he had a friend who always turned up just as I was putting the Sunday lunch on........in time for me to put an extra spud etc in.........I bested him, several times in a row when he came we were ready to 'go out' and I switched to cookiing supper instead.........It might be a bit more difficult in your case, but I do think you OH is being a bit insensitve, he doesn't like her either why should you put up with her. I am sorry but I am afraid I would deeply offend the lady.........and I certainly would not change my planned meal just so she can sponge off you for supper.

silvercharming - that woman is not a friend IMHO, no real friend would ask such a thing or just turn up like that. What a cheek. I think you did remarkedly well not to throw her out! Dave didn't seem to help matters either. you have every right to be annoyed. I hope you dont mind me commenting but I found it hard to believe her behaviour.

    N9eav - Happy happy birthday!

EssexHebridean - have a fab time today! I'm not jealous in any way and i'll be thinking of you while I'm stuck behind my desk at work :p .Oh, and my chinese last night was lovely, thank you!

silvercharming - you have the patience of a saint! She is not a friend and probably the only reason she comes to you so much is because everybody else has told her where to go! Yes, she may be lonely, but she needs to understand that she can't put you out like that, and I'm especially not surprised you found her comments on the candle offensive. I'm not remotely religious but I lit a candle last night too. Sorry if I sound a bit harsh, but I've never even met the woman and she's got me riled up!

Well, I made the mistake of weighing myself this morning - I should know better- and I discovered I've put on FOUR POUNDS this week  . Oh dear...

:grouphug: to anyone who needs one - especially as it's so cold!

    Hi guys,

Cold overcast and windy here today, being on the West coast of Wales I don't see the snow really reaching us on the forecasts I've seen but fingers crossed for the kids.

My plans went out of the windows yesterday as a friend of Eric's called with a racing game for the kids - much fun and arguing ensuing over that  but it was nice to catch up with the gossip and have some adult conversation. Then some friends of the eldest two called and they were off out. Said friends then stayed for tea. So LO and I had some quality time instead. The house looked like a bomb hit it when I finally got them to bed.

Beans on toast for lunch today and roast chicken for tea with all the trimmings. The ironing never got done yesterday allthough I got the curtains washed so I will be ironing soon.

Silvercharming - you are a far nicer person than me, these days I am of the mindset that life is far too short for unwanted stress - she wouldn't have seen the door on the way out if she had behaved like that in our house. (I know it's difficult for you as OH is part of the equation too) I hope this afternoon isn't too bad for you.

Pen-pin - I hope you are OK hun. Gentle hugs to you. xx

N9eav - Many happy returns of the day to you.

MSD - I lit a candle for Tristan last night, thinking of you and gentle hugs to you both.xx

Hugs to all in need today and I hope you all stay warm.

    Smoky. xxx

  • ((((((((((((((Tristan)))))))))))))))) prayers are continuing to be lifted for you, as well as for you (((((((((Diva)))))))))

Happy Birthday ((((((N9eav/Steve)))))) I hope it's a wonderful day and year for you.

Nesssie Hoping the cold ends soon and you are feeling better. Have you tried gargling with warm salt water? That always helps my scratchy and sore throat.

Silvercharming You are NOT mean one little bit! You're much kinder than I would have been in the circumstances. I would have probably told her that I found her ungrateful, acting like a demanding spoiled child and it was time for her to go. If that makes me mean, so be it. There are boundaries in my life that I keep for my own sanity (which somedays I'm convinced I've lost.) Perhaps it's time for Dave to have a chat with her? If he no longer works with her then he won't catch grief from her at work. The worst I can see happening is that she won't come over anymore, and is that a bad thing?

Gentle good morning ((((((((((Hugs))))))))))) to all this very cold morning. Please bundle up well if you're venturing out. It really is bitterly cold out there.

Laundry done and drying this morning and ironing will be later on. As it's DH's day off after 6 on, I'd just like to have a relaxing day for him. We are going to venture out in a bit to Mr. M's for a look. There's also an Instore in the same area so may have a browse through there also.

I have no idea what is for tea tonight. The freezer is pretty well cleaned out with the exception of veg. I do know I'll be making a big bread and butter pudding tonight as I didn't get it made yesterday. Perhaps I'll find some YS fruit that will go in it whilst out shopping.

I have a bagless vacuum that someone gave me. It's in wonderful condition and cleans so well. My only problem with it is that it cleans so much better than the old dinosaur one I had that the filter gets clogged in no time and it will over heat. It's a prolectrix that was sold at lidl's and I can't seem to find replacement filters. So in an OS attempt I cut up some hoover bags I got for free at a table top sale and wrapped them around the filter and fixed it with elastic bands. No more overheating and no more very clogged elusive filter.:D

As I'm getting the look from DH while he's skimming through the paper, I'd best go and get ready to head out. Hoping the day is a good one for everyone.

    Peyton xx

Silvercharming I'm with everyone else and you - how rude!!! No wonder she hasn't got any friends if that's the way she behaves in other people's houses. You might want to remind her of that if you get angry with her again and 'accidently' blurt it out

It's just started snowing here in Kent brrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
  • Afternoon all
Happy B'day N9eav, hope you have a great day.
I have washing on the line, the first time in so long, it's whizzing round in the wind.
Roast turkey for tea tonight, I shall make enough for DS as well, though he may not come to eat it till Monday.
Apart from that I shall mainly be knitting, hubby's not working for a while, so he's happy to do the chores during the week.
    Have a great day everyone.
    Hugs Hester
