sorry i'm a bit clueless with ironing, but don't the fold lines get ironed in?
No - not really, I don't iron hard over the fold lines. They always seem to look like when you get them brand new.

I have looked at these after reading the thread about them on here a few weeks ago, but they seem to be heavy. Does anyone find they are, in use?

The unit itself can be quite heavy, but afterall - the unit sits on the ironing board, the iron itself is not heavy.

Normal irons can be heavy as you are holding the iron with the water in. The steam irons - the water goes in the unti itself. if this makes sense

  • Hi

I have this one but mine throws out 80g of steam:

and is excellent. We used Nectar points to pay for it and paid the £10 for the 3 year cover. Does cut the ironing time by about 25% and is dead easy to use. Can drink alot of water too.

I put the unit on the floor and the iron on the ironing board rest, but then again I always iron sitting down, and watching TV. :o
  • Best thing I have ever had and I am a bit of a gadget queen! As someone else said, jeans only need to be ironed on one side! Worth every penny and I had mine years ago when they were around £200.00 *cringe*

I have a Tefal one. I love it. Try to get one where you don't have to unscrew a cap to refill it though (my old Tefal knob fell apart twice).

This is similar to the one I have. http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/0890966/Trail/C%24cip%3D42001.Kitchen%2Band%2Blaundry%3EC%24cip%3D42027.Irons%3EC%24cip%3D42029.Steam%2Bgenerator%2Birons.htm I can just open the spout and pour the water in. With the ones with the knobs you have to wait until they cool down a little before you refill them, and you can get steam coming out when you take the knob off.
  • I've had a steam generating iron, a steam machine cleaner with an iron attachment and a steam press. The steam press is the best and most efficient (and the least taxing). You can pick up a steam press for around £70.

What do you mean by a steam press, I had an elna and hated it, could not get a decent finish on a shirt to save my life, ended up ironing by hand.....the only thing I found it any good for was sheets.....
