It does amuse me you've brought cars, cows and Al Qaeda into this when others have merely pointed to the evidence - ie facts about the sheer number (thousands) of dogs being killed - which you then liken to a few 'bad owners' as opposed to the fact that the industry breeds far too many dogs and only a few are good enough to race and then only for a few years.

But if you know as much as you seem to about dog racing you'll be aware that the reason behind these 1p promotions and 'free entry' deals is that greyhound racing is in terminal decline in this country, for all the reasons mentioned above, with falling attendances and track closures so yes, if people are that keen they should 'grabbit while they can'.

And yes, we should leave it here. I'm off to look at LCD TVs!

.. it just makes me wary when somebody talks about 'money-saving' but the only subject they post about is promoting dog racing.

Thank you for pointing that out - I had not noticed before that this poster has only posted about the one subject.
  • hmmm, Rumbled.......
  • me thinks the lady doth protest too much...........

.............I wonder what someone involve in greyhound racing would post?

Rumbled? What does rumbled mean? Found out?

Am i the Jason Bourne/James Bond of the BGRB!? Secret Agent Qetu1357. Your mission is to promote greyhound racing.

No 'fraid not. Bang goes my Aston Martin.

I do confess, however, that I do know a hell of a lot about greyhound racing. Much more, I would wager, than the posters on this forum. So if you are a neutral don't be put off by the animal libbers; it is a fun, safe, cheap night out and the welfare issues have been and are been addressed.

For example, greyhound racing isn't in terminal decline. See the excellent
LORD DONOUGHUE OF ASHTON report about the state of racing which again details what the BGRB have done and are doing to address the concerns about animal welfare. If you read it you will see there are more races and more greyhounds now that a few years ago. The bookmakers (who own a lot of the tracks) will always want a product for their shops and hence greyhound racing will always be with us. http://www.greyhounds-donoughue-report.co.uk/UserFiles/File/files/greyhounds-donoughue-report.pdf

All businesses do special offers this time of year. I suppose Pizza Express (who are still doing offers in the Sunday Times and Cineworld) are in terminal decline! Or perhaps it's the economy. Are we in a recession?

Walthamstow closed (but there is a group who is confident it will re-open)
http://saveourstow.wordpress.com/ because the owners sold the site for £25 million (50 years profit) not because of any animal welfare campagin.

I abhor fox hunting (honestly) but that's banned and there are more hunts than ever.

So greyhound racing will be with us forever.

I'm off to the dogs tomorrow with my mates for a 1p deal!

BTW, I wonder as our debates keep this offer at the top of the forum, how many people are now going to the dogs (who weren't) and how many aren't (who were). I think the true greyhound racing lovers have won this one.

    Suggest we have a poll!!??

Who were you calling zealots before?

I'm sure these are the views of the ordinary ('not involved in greyhound racing, no sir, not me') man on the street
  • I hadn't realised that an actual lord, in big letters, had pronounced on this.

Clearly, the days in which greyhounds whose owners had finished with them being hanged and garotted and having their heads stoved in are over. An actual lord has assured us that all retired greyhounds are even now as we speak gambolling and disporting themselves with loving adoptive families, and not having their brutalised cadavers thrown onto a bonfire having been cruelly done to death.

People can engage with the people engaged in the greyhound trade, now all kind and fluffy, with a clear conscience. We have the word of an actual lord to rely on.

Oh dear. You haven't actually read or even looked at the report have you?

Of course not. Why should I read a long PR brochure written on behalf of the greyhound trade in which some paid shill pretends everything is now fine when the press reports real instances to prove that it isn't?

I explain it to you slowly.

This infers I am a liar.

Are you man enough to call me a liar?

How you interpret my post is of no importance to me, but why are you being so very defensive about the whole subject? why not report me like the other person who didnt agree with you? :rotfl:

It matters not what i think, but if you want to tell everyone your not a liar just answer the following question.

Have you ever told a lie?

I am not involved in greyhound racing apart from going to see it as a paying customer.

Do you think you listen to other people's opinions?

    Of course you're not.

I think I believe the evidence of my own eyes when people say 'welfare issues are being addressed' but trainers are still phoning up rescues and giving them a matter of days to sort out large numbers of dogs and the rescues are running about like headless chickens trying to find spaces as they know exactly what will happen to those dogs otherwise.

That's happening now - fact.. whatever statements by 'Lord Whoever of Wherever' you want to produce - it doesn't change the facts.
