Tesco Lorry Drivers earn £47600 pa

Sometimes on these boards there is a lot of discussion on what typical wages are, so I thought I'd post some real examples I've had this week, which I feel might come as a surprise to some on here;
Tesco HGV driver, aged 28, total package £47600 + share options amounting to about £3000 pa.
This includes 1 Sunday every 4 weeks and overtime, but I think I'm correct in saying drivers hours are limited due to H & S.
The second example is also an HGV driver, this time of Turkish descent. Been here 3 years, not a word of English.
£43000 per annum on last P60 and most recent wage slips indicate £45000 this Tax year (to April).
He's just buying his second home - you guessed it , to let out. I find ethnic minorities have a particular propensity as thier cultures tend not to be pensions oriented (now - how long before the thought police frame this as having racist under tones:T ).
His wife is a Nurse (slightly better English but only just, which one would think would have H & S issues) on £34000 inc overtime (I NEVER meet these Nurses on low wages we hear about as everyone Ive ever met gets all sorts of unsociable hours pay).

Thanks for the biggest laugh I've had in ages. Presumably these are the wages they've put down on their mortgage apps with you, which would explain why they are doubled.
Tesco artic drivers are on £29k per annum but this is a rolling 4 day week so when you factor in working 4 weekend days in a row it's not great money.
As for the non-speaking Turkish driver being on £45k well that is just beyond laughable. Even if he was working in the highest paying area of the country (Northamptonshire) and working max legal hours he'd only be seeing about £35k tops, and as he doesn't speak English then that is highly remote. I'd be surprised if he's earning £15k a year if he can't speak the lingo.
And yes, as a C+E licence holder myself and having working both as a driver and a transport manager I know what I'm talking about.

Not sure if these examples are true or not, seems unusually high. However saying that, it is possible to earn £40k+ if they are ADR qualified with a little bit of OT though...

I can't see £47k+ for plain delivery drivers where shell fuel tanker drivers are earning less.
I thought the majority of lorry drivers were on less than £10 an hour???0 -
I thought you had to show your pay chits for the previous 6 months or whatever when applying for a mortgage?0

The nurse's pay sounds about right - I know several nurses very well (have a couple in the family) but the driver's?!?!?!?!?!
I just mentioned to a colleague whose brother drives for them, and he just laughed - no way is that real even with mega-overtime up to the max H&S would allow!!!!!! If he was a petrol-tanker driver then maybe - i used to know one of those and he got very well paid in comparison with other drivers (a kind of 'danger money' one suspects....).The best advice you can give your children: "Take responsibility for your own actions...and always Read the Small Print!"

i'm sure that Conrad would have had to verify payslips and earnings to be able to confirm this on the mortgage application.
i'm sure that he did check - are you implying that he is not doing his legal requirement?0 -
Nurses salaries grade 5 (So degree qualified staff nurse) ranges from £20-£26k
Grade 6 so a charge nurse/supervisory nurse ranges up from around £24-£32k

I don't know what he's doing but I will personally stake my life on it that no Tesco driver is on £47600 even with overtime thrown in. The basic is £29k and you're restricted to how many hours you do can in day and week so at the absolute maximum with overtime I very much doubt they'd be seeing any more than £40k (and it wouldn't happen anyway because Tesco drivers are the laziest people out there and do as little as they can possibly get away with).

Have to say my brother works for London Underground and earns £45k per year (a supervisor role). Heavily unionised and he says lots of people claiming overtime sitting around doing nothing.
He states he is never going to leave.....0
