Not all nurses work unsociable hours, i actually know 3 nurses who 99% of the time work monday to friday either 8-4 or 2-10 shifts. They i believe do 1 sunday a month and get paid a little extra for it.

These are grade 5 nurses 3-4yrs out of uni and earning £23-24k.

It depends on what job you do. If you are a ward nurse then you would be expected to work unsocial hours, bank holidays, christmas etc.
It is not uncommon for us to have to work every weekend in a month. Even if a weekend is split so you only do one shift it still means you can't go away.
I was rostered to work every weekend from mid June to the middle of August when I had annual leave. When I complained about it I was told tough basically. We also have a very short turnaround between shifts. Its not easy to come off a night shift at 8 on Monday and be back in work at 7 on Tuesday morning. You barely sleep Monday night because you worry about getting up and because you have slept on Monday morning.
Thats not just the case for nurses or Doctors it applies to anyone who has to do unsocial hours.
My DH is not on a good wage but he doesn't have to work weekends or bank holidays or Christmas (he gets 2 weeks off). He does Monday to Friday 9-5.30. Every evening is his own.
A job is a job, some people earn less than others. Some people start on low wages for long hours and end up earning loads. Others within the same field will follow different career paths and earn differently.

Try starting in the following careers at 50

member of the regular armed forces

    professional sportsman/woman

police (the age limit is 56)

fire service (no upper limit - but for instance Lincolnshire fire service says
"it’s not unusual to see new Fire Fighters in their 40s." - not 50s or 60s!)

No! That's not true! Like I said earlier there was a 52 year old officer (new recruit) passing out at my boyfriends passing out parade!

Not surprised the old codger passed out, probably stood up a bit too quickly.

The definition of POA is well established here is an example it took me all of 5 seconds to find via google..
And as before POA's may be removed from working time. Again this is a feature of the Local Agreement.

You STILL aren't grasping it. Honestly, why don't you just admit you don't know what you're talking about and !!!!!! ?

Using POA is as much a legal requirement of the regs as the 'driving/other work' and 'rest' tacho modes. You CANNOT just decide not to use it because you don't feel like it  . If VOSA knew what you were doing they'd fine you and shut your company down.

If the "work" you are doing does not fall under 'driving/other work' or 'rest' or category then legally you must set the mode switch to POA (the square box with the line through it).

For a shop steward you know precious little about driving wagons, the EU driver regs or the WTD  . God only knows what sort of infringements your drivers are racking up if they're taking your advice.

Have a nice day at work tomorrow in your nice little imaginary Transport Manager world!!

Any time anyone has to resort to using language like !!!!!! means they are unable to construct a valid reply and therefore resorts to name calling more appropriate with a children's playground.

I can only assume that you have some sort of grudge against real Transport Industry professionals as too why I have no idea.
If you want to assert points of law (rather than your opinion of them) then post web links to confirm your points of view (as I have done).
    Welcome to my ignore list.

Why would any one care whether someone on the internet was a real lorry driver/transport manager/!!!!!! star or not?
  • That's a bit harsh! There are many reasons, most of them socio-economic, why people become what they become, but it's perfectly possible that under different circumstances someone who is a bricklayer could have become a doctor, or even a top brain surgeon. Just look at the percentages of doctors who grew up in working class households and compare it with the number of bricklayers who grew up in working class households.

but maybe they grew up in middle class/upper class homes because for generations, they have been cleverer.

maybe, the brickie decends from a load of fools.

    maybe? I dunno.

I came from an average working class family and so did a lot of my friends at medical school. I went to my local comprehensive school.
It's not all about "advantages" in life - yes my parents weren't drug dealing low life who didn't care whether I was stoned out of my head or in school. But I didn't have a different upbringing to any of my friends from school who became brickies/carpenters etc.
I think it is a mixture of academic ability (not intelligence), and what the person actually wants to do with their lives. For a lot of people spending 6 years studying followed by a life time of exams is their idea of hell (and mine at times).
Although saying that, I am not sure I believe this "90% of people being able to any profession" - My boyfriend was what I would class as fairly average at school, (NOT in the bottom 10%). but no way could he have got 4 As at A-level, nor passed medical school exams. As it happens he did fairly well (ABBC) but in sociology, politics, english and history. Give him 3 sciences and maths for A level and we would have done worse.
On the other hand, I'm fairly certain I couldn't become an architect, despite being fairly academically bright - for numerous reasons, no matter how hard I tried, or how much I wanted to do it - I just wouldn't have made the grade.

I have both clients pay slips and P60s.

I assure you these figures are real.

OP FYI it is very easy to get extremely convincing fakes of both these documents online. just type fake p60 into google and you will see.

many people obtain these precisely for the purpose of getting a mortgage. (it is more common among certain socioeconomic groups of particular ethnic communities, i know 'friends' of my OH who have done this).

it is another element of the mortgage market that is just waiting to implode.

    see para 4 of this
