I know an HGV tramper he works 5 out of 7 days, overnight money etc, and earns about £30K per annum, and is currently very concerned for his job.
Yeah that's about right if the overnight pay is included in that and especially if he's based down South. I bet he's working max daily hours for it though (ie. 3x 15hr shifts + 2x 13s), that's what most trampers do.

I don't have a degree and I'm on £23450 basic. So £11.9927 p/h. I get 30% extra for unsocial hours, weekdays from 7pm til 7 am and until 12MN on a Saturday. Sunday 00:00 until 23:59 we get time + 60%.
Band 6 is a sister or charge nurse. However there is not always a band 6 on duty. I have been running the ward for each shift I'm on for the last 5 years.
I am legally accountable for any mistakes actions or omissions which happen while I'm on duty. I can (and have been) called to inquest.
I think I'm worth my take home pay of £1650- £2048 per month. I often go 11 hours without a drink or a wee. I'm going to die young because I work nights and I carry A LOT of responsibility. I have been sworn at, kicked, punched, shouted at, had letter openers pulled on me, knives etc.
I have had to call relatives in in the middle of the night and explain to them that their nearest and dearest has unexpectedly died whilst they were on their way in. I have to talk through issues with families when someone is critically ill and sometimes have to suggest that treatment is not working.
I am the patients advocate and have to speak up for the best interests of unconcious/scared patients when family/Doctors think otherwise. Not easy and always upsetting. I have cried with families and for them.

Easy-peasy (and true) :
1. stop in the middle of a busy roundabout ensuring you block all traffic
2. then jump out of the cab with delivery notes in hand
3. go up to people in turn waving the delivery notes at them, pointing at delivery address
4. repeat until someone gesticulates "you follow me, I take you"
5. follow kind helper
6. job done

I think you might not be able to convince some on here you are worth it (although I think you are). I had this debate earlier in the week about NHS salaries as I am a junior Dr and don't think £21k is a lot of money for all the rubbish we have to put up with like you say in your post. People basically said I should be grateful and that it was tax payers money I was living off, etc etc.
Although saying that, people tend to have more sympathy with nurses than Drs.
And on the subject of 11 hours without a drink or a wee; ditto here. I would love to do an audit on the renal function of doctors and nurses at the end of a shift! Although sometimes on nights some very nice nurses make me cups of tea in exchange for venflons, which is lovely of them.0 -
Some people doing jobs earn good money
So what is the point of the OP exactly?0 -
Lana, IMHO junior Drs dont get anything like what they are worth. You are the first once we call on and you often turn up to the ward to be met by frantic situations and bossy nurses!
Loads of F1s that I come across are surprised when I make them a cup of tea and give them biscuits or chocolate. I always say "who am I going to call when you collapse?" I always try to do the venflons and bloods and we will all try to do it before we call the Drs because we know how busy you are.
I saw the argument if it was the one about cremation certificates. Don't see the issue really, plumbers and other trades are allowed to charge a call out fee.
I'd be gutted if my kids wanted to become Doctors because its such a hard job.Debt: 16/04/2007:TOTAL DEBT [strike]£92727.75[/strike] £49395.47:eek:   £43332.28 repaid 100.77% of £43000 target.MFiT T2: Debt [STRIKE]£52856.59[/STRIKE] £6316.14 £46540.45 repaid 101.17% of £46000 target.2013 Target: completely clear my [STRIKE]£6316.14[/STRIKE] £0 mortgage debt. £6316.14 100% repaid.0
