Skinty, I don't suppose you have any links to stats at hand do you??
I want to know what the "risks" are in going over more than 2weeks. All i know is that it was decided at some point that 2 weeks was the magic amount.
I'm incredibly weary of being induced and was thinking I'd look into it so I had the ammo ready if/when they want to induce me

I don;t have anything to hand but I'll find some for you and post them - might not be tonight though.

I'm on a progressive parenting forum and they have a lot of info. It is www.iwantmymum.co.uk I think, maybe .com

But I'll dig some out for you over the next few days and post it, because the risks aren;t as much as you'd think or at least they weren;t as bad as I'd imagined.

  • I know how you must be feeling caz - I plan to wait for my 36 week scan and then try everything to bring labour on. I am convinced the long walk I did the afternoon before DS2 was born did the trick.

That's my plan for the next few weeks sls - curry and sex and walks and curry and sex and nipple stimulation and hula hooping on the wii and bouncing on the birthing ball.

OMG - did I really type curry and sex twice!! Shows wherer my mind is!
Got to convince hubby that getting jiggy is a good idea first lol!

Jo_R might know about it too, Sami - I think her second was three weeks late..

I think I read something about the placenta "calcifying"... I imagined it going rock hard and white but I'm probably miles off! :) (quite possibly even read the word wrong :o)

The placenta does start to degrade yes, but at a different time for each woman - we have different cycles and different bodies so it's not one size fits all, which is why I think it's dangerous to just go - oh, 37 weeks (or whatever) time to get baby out.

Some women have natural healthy births at 44 weeks whereas others have their babies earlier. we do seem to be fixated on getting htem out a bit early in this country though, from what i've read other countries work on longer gestation than 40 weeks (I believe France is 41 for example).

Do you think he can be persuaded with a curry? ;)

DS1 was 7 days late and I had been booked in for induction that day - was dreading being induced so convinced OH to get jiggy the night before and went into natural labour 6.30 that morning.
