Hi,
I'm not entirely sure that i'm posting in the right place, but here goes...
I'm currently 31 weeks pregnant and am due to start maternity leave at the end of March (2 weeks before my due date)
With regard to maternity leave, my employer is quite stingey and I only get statutory so it wont be long before I'm only getting the basic £117 a week. Myself and my husband split the cost of the mortgage and bills between us and this £117 a week is going to be quite a drop for me! Is there any financial support that i may be entitled to while I am on maternity leave?
Thanks:p0 -
The boss wondered why one of his most valued employees was absent but had not phoned in sick one day. Needing to have an urgent problem with one of the main computers resolved, he dialled the employee's home phone number and was greeted with a child's whisper. ' Hello ? '
'Is your daddy home?' he asked.
' Yes ,' whispered the small voice.
May I talk with him?'
The child whispered, ' No .'
Surprised and wanting to talk with an adult, the boss asked, 'Is your Mummy there?' ' Yes '
'May I talk with her?' Again the small voice whispered, ' No '
Hoping there was somebody with whom he could leave a message, the boss asked, 'Is anybody else there?'
' Yes , ' whispered the child, ' a policeman . '
Wondering what a cop would be doing at his employee's home, the boss asked, 'May I speak with the policeman?'
' No, he's busy , ' whispered the child.
'Busy doing what?'
' Talking to Daddy and Mummy and the Fireman , ' came the whispered answer.
Growing more worried as he heard a loud noise in the background through the earpiece on the phone, the boss asked, 'What is that noise?'
' A helicopter ' answered the whispering voice.
'What is going on there?' demanded the boss, now truly apprehensive. Again, whispering, the child answered,
' The search team just landed a helicopter '
Alarmed, concerned and a little frustrated the boss asked, 'What are they searching for?'
Still whispering, the young voice replied with a muffled giggle...

Don't think so. Your SMp (statutory maternity pay) is all you are entitled to (plus child maintenance when you get it sorted once the baby is born) until you go back to work, I think.0 -
Ticklepenny, :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :T That cheered me up!
Gemz, sorry, it's just SMA, tax credits and child benefit I'm afraid. Make a budget now and you will get used to it. Your outgoings are cut down though, you don't tend to spend as much on entertainment once baby is here. Does your morgage provider do payment holidays? Some do for maternity leave.0 -
Oh dear..I dont know how on earth they think you can live on that - that doesnt cover what I normally pay towards the mortgage/bills let alone any money for other essentials. Looks like I'm gonna have to take shorter maternity leave than I expected.....gutted.0

I'm about the same age as you. I'm 40 too and my due date is 5 weeks before my 41st birthday!0 -
MFD, I think you can change your username... I'm sure MrsTine used to just be Tine on the wedding forum... Before she got married obviously... I've always been Krystaltips on everything since about 2001... Even hubby knew me as Tips before he knew me as Jo!A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...My Fathers Daughter wrote: »Krystal is so smart and funny and wonderful I am struck dumb in awe in her presence.

LOL, sorry... with DS2 I had to survive on £78 a week sick pay before my ML started so the £117 was huge!
There are tools on her that help you make a realistic budget. Also nip to entitledto.com put in a DOB for baby as say last week and find out what you can claim while getting MA. The tax credits and child benefit do bump it up a bit.0 -
I can beat that tia, I spent 6 months on basic income support of £43.25 before my maternity leave started because my meanie employer hadn't paid enough NI for me to get sick pay! Maternity Allowance was £107 a week then, I felt like I'd struck gold!A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls...
