Maternity pay does suck. I won't be able to stay on it for long either. Gonna go ebay/survey mad to build up some savings to get me through as long as I can.

I wish I could enjoy it more without worrying about money all the time but I guess everyone manages somehow. There are people much worse off than me who cope so I'm sure I'll be fine, (along with the rest of you)

I can beat that tia, I spent 6 months on basic income support of £43.25 before my maternity leave started because my meanie employer hadn't paid enough NI for me to get sick pay! Maternity Allowance was £107 a week then, I felt like I'd struck gold!

I hope you got him back! I don't remember what MA was 3 year ago, it was more than SSP anyway!

Nothing I could do, after I left someone tried to do him for unlawful dismissal and he won by saying all his staff were self employed... Even though he filled in our mortgage employment references to say we were employees!
A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...
Krystal is so smart and funny and wonderful I am struck dumb in awe in her presence.

i received a letter from my work about my pregnancy and maternity etc. i dont understand it though

    it says >
'maternity pay is is payable for a total of 39 weeks. our company policy is that the first 14 weeks will be paid at 100% of your average earnings. we calculate your average earnings by taking the average of 2 months payments prior to your qualifiying week which is the 15th week before the expected week of childbirth, these are then calculated as weekly payments. The last 25 weeks are payable at the lower rate of SMP.......' etc etc.

can anyone explain this to me?

I'm amazed at how people cope on SMP really. Even the most generous of employers still don't really pay that much. I'm lucky I suppose, I don't lose any money. My only income is Incapacity Benefit, so that doesn't change.

I'm not feeling too well today. Nearly passed out earlier, very strange. Went all 'flop bottom' as my Mum would call it. Luckily was near bed, so just had a lie down for an hour. Don't usually get colds or things, typical that I'll be poorly on my Birthday!

I won't get any more than the basic. 6 weeks at 90% then £117 isn't it?

that is quite generous, SMP is 6 weeks at 90% pay wheras you will get 14 weeks at 100% pay. the last 25 weeks will be SMP of £117.

if you are in a job where you are paid the same each week then dont worry about the bit about when it is calculated from.
