We have central heating
Why heat the whole house when its only bubs room that needs to be warmer during the night :money:
I'm working on getting new windows soon as ours were obviously fitted by cowboys (like everything else in the blooming house!!) we had to have new electrics and gas before we could move in. We've just had loft insulation put in as we didn't have ANY and that has made a big difference and made the breeze coming from the windows and doors more noticeable!Perhaps as your FIL is gonna save on taking you away this year he might consider bringing the warmer weather to your house and fitting some?:rotfl:

The Vauxhall Zafira is roomy but doesn't look like a bus - they are quite low so just look like an estate.
Don't get the 7 seater Fiat (don't know name) my stepdad had one at it was awful - loadsa problems.
We have central heating and have a 3 bed detached house - heating on for an hour in the morning and 2-3 hours in the evening depending on how cold it is. I often just put it on to 'warm the house' rather than warm me (if that makes sense). OH and I put gas fire on in living room if we are in there (someone posted on utilities board that gas fire used 1p gas per 5mins whilst CH used 5p per 5 mins!). We also put extra clothes on and snuggle with a blanket - but we always have cold noses
It's just bean I think of - don't want him/her to be too cold but always frightened to make room to hot. Oh well, will have to sort it out when time comes - I need some thick curtains to keep the heat in!!!A very busy Yummy Mummy to a 1 year old gorgeous boy :smileyhea

The house here is always about 20°. No idea how that is going to work with a baby!
I used to get annoyed when I went out, I'd come home and the heating would be on 30° and it'd be like a sauna!Stay-at-home, attached Mummy to a 23lb 10oz, 11 month old baby boy.0 -

It's the money that worries me, Our house was worth £445k, now I reckon £385. Our mortgage has approx £108k. We could remortgage now for £15k more and it would cost the same each month and we would just do the extension for that. Or we could borrow £20k and have the velux windows, bi-fold doors, oak floor etc and it would be an extra 20 quid a month. OH obsessed with not paying any more a month but is it something anyone else would be worried about. Should we just say !!!!!! and do it as it would add more than that to the value, I'm fed up with thinking about it.
How comfortably can you afford your current repayments? I think that would be what would swing it for me, if you are managing to overpay mortgage or save, and would be able to handle a temporary reduction in income, then I'd go for it. Personally, I've never gone for the 'adding value' thing - I don't think you can really count on that, especially now. I suppose you have to work out what it is worth to you. Would the extra £5k make a big difference to your enjoyment? Is OH is stable employment? How long are you planning to stay in the house?Stay-at-home, attached Mummy to a 23lb 10oz, 11 month old baby boy.0 -
I think we could go to around £30k, and we'd be happy (in fact would probably prefer) to go for a decent secondhand one rather than a brand new one.
Ours is up for renewal next year so we have had a sneaky look. I had the Zafira which is a nice car and I like Vauxhalls but I now drive the small car in the day and the company car is the large one. We have a Honda CRV which is a 4x4 but it only kicks in when needed so CO2 is low on it and it's not bad to run. We have decided to opt for a 7 seater of the same type, Nissan Quasqai+2 or pehaps the Mitsubishi. I find OH's easier to drive and park than my corsa as it has parking sensors. I hate estates as they are so long but the driving position of the CRV is great.Too many children, too little time!!!0 -
Tara - how many years would the re-mortgage add onto your existing mortgage IYKWIM? i.e. would you end up paying loads more interest back if you remortgaged?
I agree with feelie that you shouldn't think about adding value as this isn't likely to happen with the current climate.
I'm not really that good with all this but I guess it depends how much you want to get done - I would probably get it all done at once and get the 20k loan. OH would never allow it though - he doesn't agree with finance and loans except for mortgage!A very busy Yummy Mummy to a 1 year old gorgeous boy :smileyhea

Sorry everyone - not had a chance to catch up yet but angelfairy re the tens machine I think this one is fantastic http://www.boots.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CatalogSearchResultView?storeId=10052&catalogId=11051&langId=-1&pageSize=12&beginIndex=0&sType=SimpleSearch&resultCatEntryType=2&searchTerm=maternity+tens&x=46&y=7
I hired one for dd1 that was not that good, I bought this when pg with ds1 for backache and then went on to use it in labour for both ds1 and dd2 (with a little bit of gas and air to help me along the way) It has loads of different mode so you can find one to suit you and most importantly is easy to use!!
Any questions feel free to post/pm and I can answer the other side of the school run.0
