Does anyone mind if I go completely off pregnancy subjects and ask some opinions about houses and money? Think I need a womans point of view.
Too many children, too little time!!!

    Hi girls,

not able to keep up with the chat at the moment so congrats to all the newbies and to rmac and 3onitsway for the new arrivals! (3onitsway - I'm so hoping for a birth like yours!)

I've got a quick question for you HR/SMP guru's...someone mentioned the other day that in their day (think decades ago rather than years) you had to go back to work for at least 2 years before you were entitled to SMP again. Does anyone know what the current policy is? do you have to go back to work for any specific length of time between having children?

I know I've not had the first yet, but just interested to know as current thinking is that we would like the next one fairly soon after (although that might change once it's here!)

As far as I know there is no length of time required in between. I was talking with a lady about this the other day, as she was still on maternity leave and just found out she was pregnant with baby 2. She said she is returning to work for about 4/5mths and would then be entitled to full maternity leave again....

I think Maternity leave is now considered continuation of employment therefore youstill accrue holidys, maternity leave etc...

Loulee - I am not bothering with a moses basket as my last two hated it... My friends baby however is 3nths old and still in hers quite happily!!!! Sorry I know that hasn't helped much.

Would be best if you could borrow one or pick one up cheap as poss secondhand.

Tara - how many hb's have you had?

Hello Guys and Girls, Just wondering what people think about Moses baskets? some people have told me not to bother with one?! Do i need ot lol?

You don't NEED one but it can be handy :D
We can't fit a cot in our bedroom so we chose a crib for our 1st child and will be using it again for this our 2nd child.
I am borrowing a MB from a friend as i can't leave sleeping baby alone with my toddler so will need to be more portable so will be using MB for daytime naps downstairs and if I need to pop to the loo or when I'm cooking i can just pick up the basket and take it in another room with me, leaving our toddler to play in the lounge. tara - fire away

Stargirl - think you have to be employed for 13 weeks before you get pg to get SMP so don't think you have to wait 2 years. You could just change jobs. I could be wrong though - it has been known.

Re moses basket - we have bought a carrycot for Bean to sleep in for a few months and will then go in cot.

Looking at ways of warming house a bit at mo - got a HIPP baby pack thru on Sat with a nursey thermometer - our bedroom is between 10 and 13 C
A very busy Yummy Mummy to a 1 year old gorgeous boy :smileyhea

Where does the time go?

I'm not sure about this although I don't think there is a rule like that but I'd say have a look here: Expecting or bringing up children : Directgov

Oooh, I hope you don't mind if I quiz you later;) I haven't got time now, as I have to leave in less than 10mins, to collect ds2 from school for speech and language therapy, then get back to the school to collect ds1.
