  • Hello all,

Long time no post! Bad me.

Well, I'm still here, still vegan. I'm now the official vegan society contact for the Cardiff area which is great fun.

I've been doing lots of cooking and am trying to do easily freezable meals or meal blocks for after work and too tired to cook nights. Also, good lunch box ideas for the husband!

    Hi there,
I'm not vegan but am preparing myself for my return to vegetarian and then onto veganism.
Just wondered if anyone can advise me on how to make vegan pasta? does anyone have a recipe?

I've never made vegan pasta. Most dried pasta is vegan, and if you get the value sort it's probably cheaper than making your own.

Dried pasta is vegan usually, but I haven't noticed any lasanga sheets that don't contain egg for some reason!

I love this thread :j I love a nice vegan meal, even though i'm not vegan!

On the topic of coffee and soy milk, I froth my milk with my 1 cup cafetierre(plunge up and down in an inch of milk, microwave until it rises to the top) and it never curdles. Possibly because my coffee has a minute to cool and the milk is slightly warm? Just add a drop of cold water to coffee before adding cold soy milk?
Living cheap in central London :rotfl:

Most lasagne sheets are vegan too - Tesco Value is cheap too.

Earlier on this thread I said that I thought Alpro soya had a funny taste. However my DH works with someone who uses it (he's diabetic so possibly he uses it because it hasn't got sugar in it?) Anyway my DH mentioned that I hadn't had any coffee since our local supermarket stopped stocking White Wave, and his colleague said that the Alpro doesn't curdle. So I bought some and it no longer tastes 'funny' and is fine in tea and coffee used just the same as you would use bovine br**st milk :rotfl:. So they must have changed the recipe somehow - it's different packaging from the one I've tried before.

I think the Alpro soya milk has got better over the years. When I had to go on a dairy free diet after having pancreatitis I couldn't stomach soya milk, this was 10 years ago though and the taste has really improved now. It's the only one I like now.

Actually I think I do have a vegan pasta recipe somewhere which I got many years ago from I know not where. I had visions of myself making my own pasta, but I have never got round to it - and I don't have a pasta making machine. I'll have a look through my file and post it if I've still got it.

    Vegan Pasta

    200g pasta flour
    3 tbs olive oil
    pinch of salt
    6-7 tbs water

Mix to form a smooth, not sticky dough. Split it into 2 or 3 batches to make it easier to use.

Then I believe there's lots of rolling or passing through a pasta machine!
