If like me, you haven't liked morrisons soya milk, but liked tesco/sainsburys and asda's own brand. Morrisons have changed theres and it tastes like the other supermarket brands.

hello vegan old-stylers, excuse an intrusion, but I could really do with some help
I noticed you've been having a calcium discussion.
I'd read that cornmeal is a very good source, containing 350mg per 100g which is a huge 'bang for your buck'.
I sadly now can't find my linkie and other sites are giving a dissapointingly low 50mg per 100g
Has anyone else read the higher figure anywhere? I'm wondering if it's a special type?
Also if anyone has done any research on the very cheapest vegan calcium sources for maximum yield of calcium, then I'd be very grateful.
Hope this is the sort of thing it's ok to come on and ask

Have replied on other thread that its 5mg unfortified and 110mg-165mg when fortified. Will do some searching (got a couple of days off now) to see if there is any other alternatives, that are high calcium and cheap enough for your plan.

Decided to start my calcium search on the usda site, even thought it will list non uk foods and they could be differently fortified etc and guess what, Ifound where you got that figure from!

138g for 1 cup which is equal to 350mg. No wonder you couldn't find it, as you had had to of worked it out to get that figure!

Been looking on here for calcium info for Weezl.

They give details in so called common measurements. I personally don't eat a whole cup full of raisins in one go. So I thought in my wisdom, that if I converted all common vegan items in to 100g measurement and gave the calcium in mg for each that would make it easy to see which items are rich in calcium, even if they are foods you only eat in small amounts. After all small amounts add up.
I haven't included spinach or rhubarb, as although high in calcium, not readily available because of the phytates or whatever it is. Also haven't included greens such as collards, beetroot greens, turnip tops and dandelion greens, as they are not easily bought, more for the homegrown vegans. Also haven't included calcium fortified margarine or soya milk as the usa may differ on this. I've included tofu however as I think the silken tofu is imported.
This is the list so far. Have only got to page 6 of 26 and then I got bored. If I get chance I will do some more and update this.

Hi all,
Its a bit quite on here, this is my 5th post in a row!?
I went to sainsburys yesterday and in the free from section they had 3 vegan easter eggs, white and dark dairy free buttons and vegan caramel chocolates by celtic company. So your sainsburys might have the same. I didn't buy any, but thought i'd let you know.

My DH and children are all vegetarian, but 99% of what they eat is vegan - they only dairy stuff they have is cheese (sometimes) and chocolate (even more rarely!). I became vegan about 10 years ago when I already had my eldest two children, so they were used to eating dairy and eggs. My eldest DD and my DS have recently stopped eating eggs - it didn't help when one had a huge blob of blood in it recently _pale_ :eek:. DD2 sometimes declares she's vegan, but it usually only lasts a day at the most :rotfl:(she's just turned 5). I'm hoping that eventually they will ditch the last vestiges of dairy eating. I can't see DH going vegan. He only became veggie because I told him that I wasn't prepared to cook meat for him. Mind you once he became veggie he has never wavered since, and it's been 19 years for him so far.
I only cook vegan at home, except for pizzas as none of them like my vegan cheezly (the melting sort is really nice cooked - none of it is nice raw).0 -
Blackstrap molasses are a good source of calcium and other minerals. Also sesame seeds, other nuts and dark greens. I don't have any amounts though.

main problem i have found is most of the meat-free stuff fresh and frozen has egg in it :wall: and my kids love these they are not keen on lentils etc and they still eat cheese which is the only thing i miss. i found a good range of choclate in boots the other day which every one enjoyed. on a friday my girls get 50p for sweets does anyone know if any of the sweets you can buy from a papershop etc are vegan?? i did wonder if starburst are:think:0

Both Mr T and Mr S do veggie/nut burgers that are vegan. My family like Linda McCartney pies and sausages which I think are also vegan and available in many supermarkets. Approved Food have recently had burgamix, sosmix and nut roast mixes very cheap, maybe they would appeal?
Also my son likes the burgers I make with mashed up beans and various flavourings - onion, garlic, spices, herbs etc. is that worth a try?
