I know what you mean about Sky it took them 3 months and infinite phone calls to get my connection working at first.
Anyway, your master socket is normally where the line enters the premises and has a horizontally split faceplate.
You unscrew this to find the test socket underneath.
This article gives some detail.

Ok some good news and something im unsure about i took all the wires from each phone socket apart from terminal 2 and 5, but one of my phone ext has two white wires with dotted blue marks on it that went to terminal 2 so i left that as it was, although i dont use this socket anyway how would i know which wire to take out trial and error ?
Anyway the good news was i saw an instant improvement on speedtest.net i did a before and after test : 1st test = download = 3.56 upload = 0.25 then after the rewire download = 5.19 upload = 0.34 .
The only difference on line atten and noise margin stats was the noise margin went down from 11.3db now its 9.2db could it make this much difference ?
Im going to try plugging the router into master socket see if that makes further improvment, i will report back.0 -
The short answer is yes it can. What you should see is your download sync speed increase, with a corresponding decrease in noise margin (smaller number). The attenuation of the line will not change much if at all.
Its best to monitor the improvement via your router stats as speed testers can give variable results.
You were getting Down load = speed 4215kbp/s, Upload speed =412kbp/s before. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
ok, i just moved my router from upstairs to master socket now i have 6140KBPS Sync speed, 412 upload, noise margin gone down to 7.9db infact its only the noise thats come down.Sorry the 4215kbps was off my router now im getting 6140kbps from router stats and a program CALLED ROUTERSTATS4.7for my atten, noise margin and it says the same thing 6140kbps as above.I quoted 5.19mbp/s from SPEEDTEST RESULT.sorry for confusion.
What do think to a product called an ADSL NATION XTE- 2005 FILTER FACEPLATE ?
Thanks. for your help.
p.s do you have ps3 ?0 -
I use one myself and it works a treat, and removes the need for those unsightly dangling filters.
In my case I'm still running off an extension and also use the XTF filtered socket.
