  • I have a ~£40 refund coming through from the water out and some from the water in.

My water in online statement is rubbish and the lady I rang said I have ~£90 coming in the post. This roughly equates to my balance in January plus the payments since them. Methinks they having produced an up to date bill  Will see when it comes in the post. Not complaining, I'll just clear the debt on the next bill they do raise (or wait for them to ask for it).

Just had the two refunds come through!

    Water in: £92.36
    Water out: £43.86

    Total: £136.22 :T

Straight to the OP "pot" for 1 July.

As mentioned, the £92.36 is what they have sent as they cannot draw up a bill outside the two 6 month intervals  They are happy for the debt at this stage to be ~£40 and will access the DD situation in June 2010. Thinks this can be another challenge. Get that debt to nil by this time next year by using less than I did in the last 12 months :D

  • One for the energy concious (is that how you spell it ) out there!

If you have a combi boiler that has a dial on it to adjust the temperatue of the hot tap water, and hence use less gas when it fires up, you can do the following if you have a mixer shower.

Turn the shower to its hottest setting. The reason being that the way the shower changes in temperature is by adding cold water, i.e. mixing. As a result, you only have the "hot tap" running for the shower and hence less water is being used.

Now, obviously this would be way too hot. So, turn the dial down on the combi boiler so the water is therefore only warm, not boiling.

    So, to summarise:

    1) you use less water (cheaper for in and out flow)
    2) you use less gas
    3) I need to get a life :rotfl:

  • OH and I had an eye test today.

I've always had glasses (since I was 1). OH does not need glasses.

Recently I felt I was struggling to see things at a distance. E.g. telly at other end of lounge. My instinct was telling me that it must be due to my eyes adjusting to using VDU equipment at work since I started two years ago (haven't had an eye test since then).

    So, to the results:

my current percription is BOARDERLINE LEGAL for driving :eek::eek::eek::eek:

I have always been long sighted and have now become more short sighted through using the VDU equipment.

I treated my self to a set of designer glasses at specsavers along with anti glare lenses which are apparantly good for VDU equipment.

These were on offer at buy one get one free, so I managed to get

1 x designer glasses with anti glare
    1 x designer glasses

all for £155. This is a lot more than i initially anticipated spending, but had the following thought. I wear them from when I get up to when I go to sleep every day. so, why not go for it.

my idea is I will keep the second pair as a spare (just in case the others break) and then just cycle the glasses with new lenses when needed. this way I should get a good 5 years out of these.

I get the eye test free through work, so I'm happy with this.

Did have to pay for OH eye test. In the future will make sure she uses a free voucher at boots or tesco etc.

Felt the optition service was very good. However, the girl on the shop floor was really fcuking me off as every 2 minutes (yes literally) she was asking if I had found a pair. christ, give me a chance.

looking forward to getting them now. will be able to see better and hopefully will be less tierd :T

If your eyes are changing do get them checked annually. Good to see you have OH getting checked too, these can identify health issues long before you are aware so it is worthwhile. My father has glaucoma so I have to be checked every 12months, free due to this, but like many, VDU use meant company paid previously.

I used to have the photochromatics but had to switch to Varifocals last time and the thin lenses don't have this yet. However this doesn't work behind glass eg driving so my second pair are full tinted (holiday, driving in strong sunlight and business trips to sunnier places than the UK!). Photochromatics are great though the rest of the time, well worth the little extra.

I have had the anti-reflective coating for many years, it is great in offices, home with incident lighting/windows etc but also when driving at night as it reduces the flare from headlights.

The costs are simply a necessity, but as both OH and I have varifocals now the annual allowance in the household budgeting had to increase from the single vision level to £350 per year which gets each of us two pairs every two years (using the discounts etc)

I think it's really important to buy glasses you enjoy wearing. I love mine Facebook_Smiley_-_Glasses_2_22.png

Can see a lot more things that are futher away. Just shows how out of line my old prescription was  Everything close up seems a bit out of focus at the moment. Hopefully my eyes will adjust over the next couple of days.

Installed a water butt out the back off our house. In true MS fashion this was recycled from OH nan and g.dad. The guttering and downpipe that goes to this is fed from the flat roof over our extension. I don't think we will get much rain from this but every little helps. Have also incorporated an overflow system as well. I think I'm being hopefull if I think it will ever become full :p

Plan to also instal one at the front of the house. At the momemnt all three of us in the terrace (we're in the middle) guttering runs to one end. If I tap into this at the edge of our boundary I will get two roofs worth of rain :p Will def need to instal and overflow system here.

Once we have further sorted the rear garden, I want to prepare for having a veg patch next year. I like the idea of my own home grown veg.

When we move to our home home, I have some big plans for self energy production though a wind turbine, possible solar and log burner. Reading about this stuff quite simply fasinates me :o

On this note we have taken a cut through approach to our energy consumption. Hope to post some stats within the next couple of days.

Have been really struggling with my new glasses over the last couple of days. Went back today (same company, different location, as closer to my work) and said I wanted a re-test.

Had a women who really new what see was doing and it turns our two things were wrong.

    1. My new prescription isn't quite right
    2. I actually need varifocals

This has incurred a further cost of £109.

Really really annoyed with this. NOT the cost, but the fact that they got it wrong and I now have to wait 10-14 days for the new lenses. Then give them my glasses and then wait 2-3 days for them to be fitted.

Luckily I got the buy one get one free offer so have another pair. However, the prescription is still wrong and make my right eye hurt like hell when reading or using a computer.

The perscription for the bottom of the varifocals is very similar to my old glasses.

I therefore am going to use my new glasses for driving and walking to and from work from the car park, and then use my old glasses at work and around the home.

Really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really want this to be sorted.

Btw I REALLY want it sorted ASAP.

Oh to make it worse, looked online at their website and the lenses are only £60 not £109 I just paid. Will be printing this off and demanding the £49 as a refund.

Would you guys ask for a refund of the £49? I think is the least I deserve being they didn't get it right in the first place.

definitely ask for a refund! they got it wrong and so if it was right in the first place you would have bought the £60 ones. and not the ones you didnt need!

Hope you get the results for your exams that you need. I started doing AAT course at home but it got too difficult to understand the lessons on my own and over emails it was ridiculous!
