The thing with VA and reward flights is they are quite few per flight and you usually need to book way in advance to get the dates you want. Always check with them on the phone to make sure the flights are available - and bear in mind you still have to pay the tax.0

Have just done a quick search on VA website and taxes etc are about £275*, so if you can get the flights for £400 then no, it's not a good deal as your £180 in vouchers is going to save you about £125*.
Reward flights are much better value if you are flying at more expensive times of year.
TBH £400 to Orlando is a good price and I'd be snapping that up while it's still available.2.22kWp Solar PV system installed Oct 2010, Fronius IG20 Inverter, south facing (-5 deg), 30 degree pitch, no shadingEverything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the endMFW #4 OPs: 2018 £866.89, 2019 £1322.33, 2020 £1337.07

VA is no different to Avios you have to pay the taxes. Avios are doing a promo in February 100 miles per £2.50 CC voucher. Only really worth it if you are going after peak time tickets August because of the taxesPrivate Parking Tickets - Make sure you put your Subject Access Request in after 25th May 2018 - It's free & ask for everything, don't forget the DVLA0

Hi guys,
I was saving up for the extra Avios exchange, but I was looking at where you can fly direct to from Manchester and saw nothing so chatted with them and they told me that you can fly nowhere but Dublin and one other completely non-interesting place!! There was me, happy about the changes to Avios for scrapping the extra for flying from Manchester... and now nothing... you have to fly to London first which is pointless for flights in Europe!!
So I looked at the Cosmos exchange... now, many people were moaning many times that you have to ring up and you are given price much much higher then online (aparently brochure price, but now they don't show final prices in brochures?). But I just looked online and now you can do it online, and I did a check (Thailand in May) - first I went via the Tesco rewards link and once Cosmos direct, and it has given me the same price...
Has this changed, or is there a catch somewhere later on, when you actually get to a later screen or something?
Anyone knows?0 -

The normal 600 miles will be added initially and the bonus 400 miles added 28 days later.2.22kWp Solar PV system installed Oct 2010, Fronius IG20 Inverter, south facing (-5 deg), 30 degree pitch, no shadingEverything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the endMFW #4 OPs: 2018 £866.89, 2019 £1322.33, 2020 £1337.07

I travel regularly to the US with Virgin and the way I think about is as follows.
Normally every Clubcard point is worth 1p (more if you use some of the Tesco trade-in schemes). The Tesco deal of 2.5 miles per £1 spent in Tesco means that you are paying 1p for 2.5 miles. Or, put the other way, each mile is costing you 0.4p.
If you play around on the Virgin Atlantic website you will be able to see what deals are available and work out how many points you need for flights. What I then do is work how much I can save with the the miles on the different deals. For example, last year I wanted to fly to NYC but the maths said that each mile was only worth about 0.3p, but if I flew to Boston there were better deals available and each mile was worth 0.8p Since 0.8p is greater than 0.4p it made sense to exchange my Tesco points for Virgin Atlantic miles.
When you are comparing flights remember to keep those things in mind. First, you still need to pay taxes. Second, when you book a flight with the Virgin Atlantic miles you lose those miles you would have gained if you had paid for the flight. So if the flight cost 45,000 miles, but you would have got 3,500 miles if you had paid for the flight the real cost in miles in 48,500.
It's all a bit complicated, but hope this helps.0 -
Hi CosmosHolidays and welcome!
So is it correct that you are now not penalised, as previously, for using Tesco vouchers? Previously you always had to pay the brochure price rather than the online price.0 -
CosmosHolidays wrote: »Hi Any, I work at the Cosmos Holidays contact centre. Regarding your question about the Tesco link, I've reported this issue to our IT department and have been assured it's been corrected. If you'd like to check again the website should show the correct price (there should not be any discount in the price box). If you're still seeing an error, try pressing Ctrl + F5 on your keyboard to refresh the page and if that fails, please don't hesitate to email us through the website with a screenshot. I'm sorry for any confusion caused but I'm glad you brought this to our attention. KJ

Any form of airmiles are only really useful if you going for business or first class, I have about £800 of clubcard vouchers to exchange into avios and an AMEX companion voucher. Using them on first class return to hawaii via lax (flights are worth about £16k)
Total cost to me, not much for the clubcard points and £1100 in taxes and charges0
