I rang Barclays and the guy was useless, spoke to me like crap and was very unhelpful. Decided to go back to Lloyds TSB, as I found them a great bank. I've just opened a standard current account, with a savings account and save the change. The lady on the phone was very helpful. Card will come in a few days.0

Don't blame you. If you found them useless, then try someone else.
What card did they say they are going to give you?
What CRA did they check?
I can't wait until my defaults are gone, I would just love to go into a bank and pick any type of account not just the basic one.

On that note I rang Abbey again for a card "upgrade" and surprise surprise, they said not yet. The girl I spoke to today was bloody useless. She said you have to wait 3 clear months between applications for an upgrade, well that's total rubbish.

Abbey's customer services are abominable. My 2 friends have accounts with them and hate it0

I phoned them and the kind lady talked me through it all. She said 'We're now going to check with a credit reference agency (didn't say which one) and the results from the CRA along with your income, the computer will tell me what accounts we can offer you'.
She said I can either have a standard current account or the current account silver, which was around £12 I think and had travel insurance and all of that. I don't drive or travel, so had no use for it, so I just took the standard account.
She said I'd get a 2 in 1 debit card, which I guess is just a standard visa debit card. They'll be sending me out a cheque book. She also said if they see £1000 go into the account each month, they'll add vantage onto the current account, which gives extra interest rates or something along those lines.
She also said she'll get someone to phone me within two weeks to make sure I've received the card and to see if I have any questions. I'm going to ask whether I can have a small overdraft or not.

I think it's Experian. If it's a 2in1 then it doesn't have a cheque guarantee facility.0 -
