I am actually thankful that I was never able to get any CC when I was younger because it would have been disastrous and I would have been in the sort of position a lot of people on the DFW threads are. It was bad enough maxing out a NEXT catalogue at 16 and being baffled that I was expected to pay for all the clothes they sent to me :p

After paying off monthly balance in full, as per usual, on Vanquis & Flybe, leaving me out of pocket £840+, I have decided that I am going back to using my debit card. Yes, I will be making minor purchases on CCs but no more than £40 on each p.m. What I have found out in the past year is that having a CC makes me spend more money each month than I would normally, and that the higher my limit went the more I spent. So, no more! I have learnt that I much prefer to pay as I go :)

Really glad I now have them (CC) but I think I might just bung them in water, pop it in the freezer and forget about them lol

Woody, that is exactly what my brother said.

Who do you bank with Woody? Would they give you a better APR than Vanquis?

Thanks for that Sutton. I bank with Nationwide who wouldn't give me spit if I was burning. I have had a basic account with them for many years and that is all I get. I have my earnings, which is a decent one, going in every month and still they refuse to give me anything more than a cashcard.

On the other hand, I opened an A&L a/c in 2006 and given a Chequebook straightaway and a Visa Debit Card within a year, which I was grateful for. I do not use it as my main current account but I do have the bulk of my savings with them. I could give it a try with them, the worst they can say is no, right!

I, stupidly, allowed H.O.F to convince me to apply for a storecard which was rejected. This was only last month so I should maybe wait a while before applying to A&L?

Vanquis APR is 48% or something and Flybe is 34% or thereabouts so anything lower than that would be a result lol

Yes it's worth a go. If you have a good internal score with them. Have you tried moving banks for a proper current account.
Have you thought about trying HSBC, HBOS or Lloyds for a normal current account. They might be prepared to offer a credit card as I've read they look at how you run your accounts and offer products based on that.
