Hi everyone, this is a great thread. After finding it a couple of weeks ago I applied for a Vanquis card online. Last week I got a phone call (at 8am in the morning!) and after trying to sell me PPI and Identity Fraud cover they confirmed I'd been accepted; £250 limit. They emailed me an agreement which I don't have to sign and I haven't had to send any ID.
That said, I'm really surprised they accepted me as though I'm a homeowner I have three CCJ's (satisfied) from a tough time back in 2006. I am, however, on the electoral roll and since the bad period, move heaven and earth to make payments on time every month to my Marks and Spencer card and my Capital One card.
Sutton, I really think the electoral roll business has been hurting your application. I left Experian membership last month because they failed to update my Electoral role entry (current address less than one year, previous address 18 years) and have obtained the Vanquis card since.... previously only other application was to Virgin for their card - turned down.
Like everyone else I'm trying to get more green noughts. Capital One have never raised my £200 limit either to whoever posted about that.Magiciansgirl0 -
I also think that your debts have been satisfied this will help.0

Thanks. I sent my passport and bank statement to Vanquis yesterday. It's showing as received, so hopefully I'll have a Vanquis card by next week some time.
When I phoned Aqua, I set up a Direct Debit to pay the full amount each month. I'm now contemplating whether this was a good idea and whether I should have just taken in the giro slip and paid in my bank each month or pay via Debit Card, as if one month, I'm a little short, I can't just pay say 70% off the card and leave the extra 30% till next month.
I don't see myself doing this, but I can never be sure.
Paying AQUA is a bit of a head ache, everytime I call to make a simple payment, I get a hard sell for payment protection. A 1min call takes 10 mins!
I wish they pull their fingers out for an online service. As much as I hate capital one, you can't fault their online service.0 -

I set up bill payments through my bank and pay Aqua and Vanquis this way. Paid once over telephone and liek you say gett he hard sell and cannot be bothered with that. I pay online as soon as I gett eh bill then ring their automated service about 3 days later to make sure they have recieved it , never have to speak to a " human"TOTAL 44 weeks lose. 6st 9.5lb :T0 -
Vanquis' automated telephone service is excellent. Can even request a PIN reminder without talking to someone.0

you set it up with your bank , if you have online access you can normally do this only . It is the your decission when you pay adn how much you pay.
What bank do you bank with ? different banks call it different things.
The details you need, sort code and account number will be on back of your statement and your cred card number will then be your reference. I only paid £1 first time to make sure it went through lolTOTAL 44 weeks lose. 6st 9.5lb :T0 -

I'm going to contradict that thought that they telephone system is excellent, my Brother has just rang them up to pay his bill. Normally as you said it's great but this time it's crap they said his payment was quote "not authorised" so he checked Natwest on-line banking and they have authorised the money to come out. He knew there was enough money in there. Thick idiots.:mad:0 -
If you want to pay them by debit card you have to ring them up and pre-register your debit card.
I think I did register my debit card but have never used to facility to pay over phone after first time , just in case they make me talk to someone lol
I do check my balance on phone though and that payment is recieved. Handy as I can also check hubbys balance lolTOTAL 44 weeks lose. 6st 9.5lb :T0
