  • I am also going to try and use up cleaning stuff. I have a kitchen sink cupboard full of the stuff and also a cupboard in the utility room. I am going to use them up and then just buy the multi use cleaning products.

  • In the spirit of trying to use things up I am also going through cupboards. The beauty mags always give idea for making your feet lovely for the summer, so I'm starting now. Every evening I slather my feet with loads of body lotion and put some thick socks over the top. Feet should be baby soft by summer!

last night in the spirit of this thread i used two packages of puff pastry i'd taken out of the freezer about 5 days ago (stocked up on new years eve!)

i'd meant to make salmon en croutes but didn't get the thime. i knew were going to be too busy this weekend and didn't want them going off so i decided to make lazy breadsticks!

i grated up the last bit of some parmesan (also bought during our clearance raid on new years eve), tossed in a bit of the dried peccarino (or whatever that cheese is they sell powdered in the canisters as parmesan, it's not quite parmesan but close) also put in a pinch of salt and some garlic granules from lidl

i also melted a bit of butter in the microwave
i cut the puff pastry into kit kat sized fingers rolled it a few times in the melted butter then throuroughly covered it with the cheese mixture

i put these on a lightly greased pizza pan and put them in a hot oven til they were golden and crispy

HEAVENLY! definately moreish and would make a superb party food... i'll happily make those again ;-)

and i figure they have some great potential for variety... different cheeses, different spices etc

Great post.If you would be kind enough to remind us every year, youve got a job for life.
  • I always keep a list of the toiletries i've got stocked up to stop me buying more when i don't need to, no matter how tempted i am!! christmas and birthdays are a good time to take stock when you have loads of smellies given to you. i also keep any samples that i get for weekends away so less to carry.

Congratulations on your first post!!!! welcome!!
  • I have loads of those skincare samples you get in magazines, but as my face is very sensitive I can only use certain things on it and can't 'chop and change'. Then I realised that one sachet is just enough to use on neck, chest and decollete (?). The beauty pages always say you should take you skincare products down to your bust!!!
I also put these moisturiser samples in my handbag - they are ideal as handcream

I've done a three day meal plan of all the soon to be out of date foods in cupboards and freezers, so everything should be used up by Sunday! (if I stick to it)

As for hair products, well, I still have about 10 bottles of conditioner which I purchased from America last year that have yet to see the light of day! Eeek!

I've got a bag of old lipsticks and I'm sure I remember hearing once that you can melt it down and reform into new ones (they're all more or less the same colour) - anyone know how to do this? I'm assuming some sort of bainmarie thing or could you use a pot inside a microwave? Or would the "two years" use by kick in and make them germtastic?

I used to have the dozens of opened bottles of shampoo and conditioner etc in the bathroom but had a "use up" session. Decided that shampoo is shampoo regardless of brands and decanted the half bottles into a large pump dispenser one using a funnel. Now have one for adult shampoo, one for conditioner - don't buy separate liquid soap/shower gel/foam bath just use a cheap foam bath for all 3 tasks (20p odd from tescos or asda), plus baby shampoo and baby wash. Clearer bathroom and didn't have to buy shampoo etc for months
