Hi Dannii and welcome to the site.

The guy i spoke to at branch today told me that the policy changed again last month and people with a history of BR are now allowed online banking.

Hi, I'm a Personal Banker with Barclays too but new to forums! I think the procedures are changing, we were never allowed to open Cash Card Accounts in branch but if a customer asks now then we have to do it. The search is only to verify your address and is not disclosed to other lenders. I've had a couple of postal applications declined, apparently they automatically are if the customer is bankrupt and if an appeal is made they are accepted, but the processing centre is not allowed to do this??

Customers with bankruptcies are not allowed Online Banking, not sure why though.

    Hi Dannii

I applied in the branch twice on the new Gateway system. Both applications were declined and both appeared on my credit file as current account credit checks rather than ID verification. I was told by the call centre that I need to apply by post and send proof of my bankruptcy (not sure why as they can see my bankruptcy on my credit file). Does this make an sense to you?

    DVS,

This is what happened to me and the personal banker says it will do this now as you ar BR ask the personal banker if they can appeal it for you and ask that you only get a cash card for now and then it will go through. I was told to run me account well for 3 months and pop back and they should be able to upgrade the account for me.

    Hope this helps.

I've kinda given up now. I'm quite happy with my Co-op account - apart from the Electron card but it's not the end of the world. I was only really applying for the Barclays account because I wanted to have an account for household expenses. I also wanted to know why I had been declined so it could help other people (at the time I thought I was the only one who was having difficulties with Barclays).

Natwest have said I can keep my account (which I haven't used for years) but I'm waiting to see if they are true to their word first.

    Yeah good idea with Natwest.

I have a co-op cashminder which i love but like you we need a account for household bills but like you i had to fight all the way and ask plenty of questions and when people make things hard for me these days i want to fight back.

Personally as you have come this far i would fight a little more as i think you are nearly there.

Perhaps I might hear something in a few days/weeks if there has been a delay with processing paper applications so will keep you posted. Still not sure about being deleted from their systems. Seems a little odd to me. I'll probably be offered an account only to be told a few days later that it doesn't exist!

    Well here's an update:

Natwest (as expected) are now saying that I cannot keep existing dormant current account despite telling me on four occasions that I can keep the account. Apparently it's because it's classed as a credit account. They checked this with the legal department who said I can have a Step Account.

So I applied for the Step Account online and it was declined. I called to find out and they wouldn't tell me but told me to apply again. I applied again but didn't input that I was an existing customer. The application processed further and then there was a question about whether I had ever been declared bankrupt. So I put yes and it was declined because... wait for it... I'm a bankrupt.

I called business services and was told by the first agent that if I hadn't said I was bankrupt then the application would have gone through. I then spoke to someone who spoke to someone my business manager who said I can definitely have a Step Account but I needed to go to the branch.

So I went to the branch, told them the situation and was told that the account is not available to undischarged bankrupts. She looked into my account and contacted the person who put the block on my account. She was told that I had to keep quiet about my bankruptcy and we can open the account'. Same thing one adviser said on the phone. So it seems they are saying lie and you can have the account. Hmmm.

As for Barclays... well I called the call centre and was told that they did start to process my application but the ID was not verified by the branch correctly - it needs to have the ID stamp and a till dated stamp (which was news to the branch). Apparently the ID was sent back to me on 6/02 but it hasn't arrived so I went back to the branch and filled in a new application and got ID verified etc. Won't hold my breath though...

I called Barclays today and was told that they currently processing applications received on 12th February so it's taking 12 days to process applications.
  • Im all confused now.

Ive either been very lucky or something is drastically wrong!!!!

Went into my BB on Sat and spoke to an adviser, went through and did the application and it was refused.

Then she jumped screens to another system and fiddled with some columns and everything went through.

She gave me a sort code etc and said i could have online banking and a connect card for use in shops - that is better than an electron card - but its definately a cash card account (i asked her to check this)

Now, have i got the wrong account? Im really worried now as ive just got my work to change my bank details so that my wages will go into my new account and ive cancelled everything out of my old one.

Have i got it all wrong? Have i got the right account or the wrong one?

    How will i know??????

    aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
