sounds pretty pathetic if im honest, both people come into branch, get it put in writing so we have confirmation, party is removed there and then (assuming this is a current/savings account). Short/long and statement names changed then. In all this takes about 15mins if the pb is particularly slow.
Hi demotw - it sounds like you know how to do your job however not all your colleagues have had the same training I suppose!

  • I applied for and got a barclays cashcard account 2 weeks after BR (the coop turned me down, sore losers)

    I had a non-chip card, only useable in-branch

all i put thru the account was a £100 cheque, which i withdrew once cleared faster than a fast thing going fast

once discharged and missing a debit card and online banking i applied for both, seems they didnt understand and i got a chip card for online only, when i rang they said to take my discharge letter to my branch who would copy it and send to "them", trouble is the branch didnt know who "them" were and it took 45 minutes to get any sense, i had to leave the copies there but only so a manager could post the details on "the system", i was ever so chuffed to be messed about after a trudge through the snow.

lets see what happens now, if the left hand tells the right hand whats going on it work, i wouldnt lay any bets on it though.

Yeah well done demotw for the info. I am expecting a call from the personal banker i saw last week and i will ask about the connect card as she suggested to me that if i won the appeal which she thought i would as the credit check only reveled i was BR that i would only be allowed a cash card but from what you say i should really still get a connect card which is really when i could do with to pay bills online as i like to control certain companies that cant be trusted with direct debit.

you dont need the connect card but you do get a card reader and a chipped card to use in it, you input yr pin to get an access code. that card isnt a debit/connect thought

I believe the connect card is more of a debit card and thats what i need as i can pay on there site as alot will now not let you have there sort code or account number to pay as they use computer systems to run the lot.

make sure you ask for connect electronic card rather than connect card, one is credit scored the other isnt, heck even an 11 yr old can have a full visa connect electronic card (with parents permission obv). Barclays do also do an authentication card for the purely internet banking side, but i would stick to the connect electronic as its normally better.

Well i had a call from the bank today to say that there is still no decision on the appeal so that will be a week tomorrow. I was told that they policy was being tightened towards us BR's. I asked about the electronic connect card and mentioned what was said on here but i did not say the site so no worries there.

She said that she was told to apply for the cash card as there was a better chance that it would go through and if i ran the account well for a few months they could then possibly get me the electronic connect card:confused:

So i am hoping no news is good news that she will call tomorrow with some good news that i at least have the account......

I am surprised that Barclays are changing there policy as as the lady said to me that we have had a knock but might be very good customers for the bank in the future.

It's non-BR's they need to be more picky with, we've been there, done that, got the t-shirt, and are now no risk at all

Talk about closing the gate after the horse has bolted. Or is it that they can't make any money out of us because we run our accounts well
