Today I had cous cous with lettuce, tomato, peppers, mushrooms and radishes. Topped off with some garlic cream sauce. For snacks I had 2 apples and a bag of crisps.

For tea i'm having a jacket potato with tuna mayonaise and salad. I might even have an ice cream for dessert.

I make my lunch everyday, saving myself arounf £4 a day.

What a great thread as it's too easy just to buy things while out at work.I'm a taxi driver so am always on the road and find sandwiches really boring.I'm trying to lose weight as well so am glad to hear all the ideas.

My b/f used to easily spend 4.00+ a day on food and drink until we decided to save money and make it at home. He just takes in a sandwich (one loaf and a packet of meat), packet of crisps from a multi-pack, sausage roll, choccy biccie and a yogurt. It probably costs about 4.00 for all of that (all value products). He still has to pay for his tea and coffee at 20p each time so we're looking at getting him a flask! I'm lucky as all my meals and drinks are free (meals not great but anythings a bonus!)

After the christmas binge period, I think i'm starting to lose weight again.

Every weekday morning I have a large bowl of porridge oats, about £1.50 for a box that lasts over a week.

Now I'm too lazy each morning to make sandwiches so for lunch, I have 2 apples, 2 satsumas and a yoghurt - usually Shape (good for filling you up). I don't have a set lunch break, so I eat these over a period of 2-3 hours from about midday, which I think should be good for metabolism.

Coffee/Tea is provided free by work, but I usually drink water (also free :D )

At night time I have a regular tea time meal, and then a bowl of home made fruit salad on some evenings (usually after I go to the gym).

So lunch time. I think you can get 8 shape yoghurts for about £2.50 on offer which makes them 31p each. Assuming apples are £1.50 for a bag of 7 that's 21p each and satsuma's 12p each at a guess.

I think I spend about 97p for lunch, it's healthy and it takes no time to prepare!
  • My employer provides tea, coffee, hot chocolate and filtered water plus bread milk and butter so I can always have tea and toast.

There are back up emergency sachets of oat cereal, cuppa soup, couscous and pop tarts in my drawer, and some frozen sandwiches in the freezer if I need to grab something in 3 seconds flat, but I can usually get it together well enough to pack some left overs in a microwaveable pot or make a sandwich the night before.

I bake some oatmeal cookies or flapjacks at the weekend which last most of the week if I am well behaved, and if all else fails I grab whatever is in the fruit bowl on my way out of the door

Today I had a pot of hummus and red pepper crudites for my lunch.

I always try and take lunch to work, but quite like something "substantial". ;) Current favourites include pasta (80g dry weight) with either a small tin of weightwatchers tuna/mayo/sweetcorn (bought when on offer in Lidl, most recently at £1.29 for 3 - I know I could make it cheaper myself, but as the only member of the household to eat tuna, except for the cat , I like the portion control aspect with no waste!) or a homemade tomato/veg sauce. Alternatively, cold rice salad with lots of veggies chopped into it, or, like this week, 40g (dry weight) couscous mixed through salad (lettuce, cucumber, cherry tomatoes, carrot, spring onion, peppers, anything else I find in the fridge!) flavoured with a dash of chilli sauce to make it spicy!!

Breakfast for me is mostly Bixies (Lidl's own brand Weetabix - I really can't tell the difference as I like to put milk on them and leave them for 5 minutes to swell up and go "mushy" anyway...:rotfl:) - am still eating through the stash I bought last time they were on offer at £1.95 for 72 biscuits. I got some strange looks when I swooped off with 3 boxes, but I'm having the last laugh because my breakfast is sorted for the foreseeable future...! :T

Dinners - we have been joining in with the meal planning on the OS board, and it really has made a difference (hardly anything gets thrown away, and we eat some really delicious leftovers). My freezer is full of odd little bags :p and I have developed an unhealthy obsession with lock and lock boxes :o, but we are spending less and eating better than ever before. :j

Great thread...thanks for starting this! :D

I rarely buy food at work anymore. Today I had a tin of very nice tomato soup for my lunch (only 22p from Netto!) and I took in some bread as well. Saving a fortune by taking in food from home so can't complain!

Look at the time - having read through the latest posts on this thread I should go and prep some lunch for tomorrow rather than mooching around on DFW.....

.....done now. Hummous & carrot sticks, yoghurt and grapes. All ready to grab out the fridge in the morning when I'm running late as usual!

  • Morning Packed Lunchers....

Looks like a lot of you are being motivated into bringing in lunch instead of buying it... Think of the savings.

Can't believe how lucky some of you are to have free Tea and Coffee at work.

A Major find last night... Searched ther freezer and found some Chicken Breasts which had a BBE of 28/12/08 (yet label said can freeze for 1 mth) so I swiftly de-frosted, then cooked it up. Ummm.

    Todays Dinner....

Chicken pieces, cooked in paprica and a dried chilli and herb mix, served on a medley of salad (leaves, celery, toms, fete... etc) and a bit of rice. Ummm.

Also brought in 2 Bananas and 2 Oranges. Although my bananas are more brown than yellow.... not sure if they'll be heading for the bin or my tummy.

Aiming for a NSD today - Wish me luck.

P.S. Whats thjs hummous people keep talking about?

P.P.S. Gonna cook this up on Sunday and bring in for dinner on Mon and Tues next week... Anyone else want to join in?... This has gotta be cheap.
