Don't think dinner will be much for me, been very unwell and food is still a bad word. Lost loads of weight and feel dreadful. Managed couple of dry ryvita and a kiwi fruit.

Hope you get better soon.... Until you do though, enjoy saving £££.
  • Had a cup noodle at home and got my sarnies for work later at about 4'ish plus some hula hoops.

I always bring in leftovers, I worked out that I was spending about £4.00 a day if I went to Sainsburys and bought lunch from there. I try to put the £20 I would save each week in a tin, then I have about £80 per month saved up [and also can 'dip into' this and leave my bank a/c alone if needs be!]
A couple of quick faves of mine are:

Cous cous with finely chopped onion, shredded chicken [from previous day's roast] chopped sun-dried tomatoes in oil [expensive, but a jar lasts for ages] lots of chopped pasley, oil and balsamic vinegar - or you could replace chicken with tuna.

Mixed dried beans soaked and cooked - or you can get value tins of these in most supermarkets. Add finely chopped onion, finely sliced pepper, parsley, tuna and oil and vinegar. You can add fresh cooked beans / other veg depending what's lurking in your fridge.

I buy a big pot of own brand Greek yoghurt and then chop up some dreid apricots and almonds, mix with some sultanas and put in a bag to mix at work [they seem to go funny if you mix them in and leave for hours]. Makes me feel like I am back on holiday in Greece!
Also buy cheap 'exotic' fruit and make fruit salad - pineapple, grape and melon, for example. I know we are all saving money, but 1 pineapple and 1 melon is a lot cheaper than a ready made pack of fruit salad from a supermarket - and it lasts! And I also find an apple /an orange on its own a bit boring....

Brunch bars / nibbles from Poundland - this week they have multipacks of mini Cheddars for £1.00 - my faves! tea and coffee free at work. I also take in muesli and bread so I can have proper breakfast and also toast snacks if hunger pangs hit mid-morning.
Just realised this sounds like I spend all day eating....!

I'm proud of you MessyMum - If all you had was yoghurt then you must have been so tempted to spend some money on something more substantial.

Stick with it and fill up in fruit.

ha, believe me..If I had any bleeding money I probably would have gone to the sandwich van ;)

Just seen another tip from Lilian (soz if that's wrong) about taking a couple off biccys home, That is such a good idea, would feel guilty about it if I didn't know people take whole packets and stuff em in one tea break.

Off too eat my yoghurt (whilst dreaming its a lovely steak sarnie) x

If they're free they're free - it doesn't matter where you eat them :) Just make sure you wrap them in some kitchen roll or tissue so they don't crumble up in your bag :D

This is a fantastic thread! I used to be a nightmare for walking to the nearest village and buying a sandwich, oh, and a packet of crisps and a drink and a treat. There really isn't any excuse because I work from home!!! So, i'm going to follow this thread and make sure I don't ever buy in again, like lots of you have said, the sandwiches are often tasteless anyway.

    So, today I've had;

Egg mayo sandwich and a packet of crisps (from a multipack). This is also going to make me eat more healthy foods as I don't want to be writing chocolate, cakes etc every day. So, i'm also going to have two pieces of fruit:A !!
  • Was going to be HM guacamole with bits and pieces but my avocado is too hard!! So it's tuna pasta salad instead!

This is a great thread! I bring my own lunch to work to but am getting fed up rushing around in the morning making it for my and OH. I normally make sandwiches as OH's beady eyes always spot when I try to save some dinner for the next day's lunches. He always claims to be still hungry so he can finish the lot off

The other morning I mistakenly made one sandwich too many so I popped it in the freezer for today and it was fine - does anyone know if I can do this with most sandwich fillings? This one was just cheese and tiger bread. It would be good if I could make a few in one go and freeze them!
