Oops - overslept this morning so no chance to make anything exciting - I've ended up with cup-soup and toast and an apple. Not the greatest food but still cheap at thats more important!

How about taking in a natural yoghurt, chopping up the fruit and eating it all mixed together? Cheaper and healthier than yoghurts with sugar in, and you'll be getting fruit without it feeling like you're eating it?! Maybe add some sunflower seeds or raisins?

I'm not a massive fan of yoghurts either actually :rotfl:
I'm ok with any fruit which crunches, so apples are fine :p

some raisins would be a good idea though.....thanks :D

  • Bargain day today - I had a tin of Sainsburys Value vegetable soup for lunch - it costs 17p!!! I tried the chicken one as well but its horrible, the veggie one is good though, and low in calories. Fruit this afternoon, so no more spends today.
What goes around comes around.....I hope!

Strawberry yogurt from buy 5 for £2 offer
    Banana for lunch or later!

Don't know exactly how much it cost. I plan my lunches when I do my weekly meal plan. I spent £27 for all the weeks' meals, that includes household stuff too.

This is a fantastic thread! I used to be a nightmare for walking to the nearest village and buying a sandwich, oh, and a packet of crisps and a drink and a treat. There really isn't any excuse because I work from home!!! So, i'm going to follow this thread and make sure I don't ever buy in again, like lots of you have said, the sandwiches are often tasteless anyway.

    So, today I've had;

Egg mayo sandwich and a packet of crisps (from a multipack). This is also going to make me eat more healthy foods as I don't want to be writing chocolate, cakes etc every day. So, i'm also going to have two pieces of fruit:A !!

Get in !!!! Well done. Glad the thread is encouraging you.

    Todays Delights:
Lime & Cortriander Rice with Oven Baked Salmon (all leftovers or potential waste from fridge)
1 litre Bottle of diluted Apple & Blackcurrent
Yogurt (Goes Oot Of Date tomorrow so potential waste)
    Chopped Orange and Melon Medley
Great idea for a thread, thanks for starting it :)
In fact you have spurred me on to 'clean out' the fridge - some of our most delicious meals have been leftovers! I save odds and ends of veg in the freezer when I remember, as I make veg soup out of them when there's enough and it's almost always gorgeous.
Incidentally, I don't throw out yogurts that go out of date without checking they are really un-eatable. They generally remain edible for some time - even months, don't ask how I found out! Of course I wouldn't risk trying anything potentially dodgy on someone sick or old or on an infant but as I'm a healthy adult and am willing to risk a cautious try of things that look alright, I have saved a few yogurts in my time!
I am much more cautious with meat, poultry and fish but yogurt and veg can last beyond 'best before' dates especially if stored in the fridge.
Anyway, your yesterday's dinner sounded really good, here's to many more of them!

  • I don't go to work any more (early retired), but when I did I used to spend a fortune at the food station. Tea and coffee was a kitty of £1 a week.

Now my husband and I make a roast chicken last for four meals for the two of us (roast, fry-up or sandwiches, curry, stew) and are always making meals from leftovers, or freezing them if there are enough.

When we travel from Spain (where we live ) on the ferry from Bilbao we take our own food and tea, coffee and travel kettle, also our own wine (it is a 30-hour crossing - day, night, day in one direction and night, day, night in the other). We will only have one 'bought' meal while we are on it. Last time a steward looked at our shopping bag and asked if we were moving in permanently!

We've found we can live on very little

Just thought you might like a different 'take' on the thread.

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton
  • I usually have brought in lunch - but today did buy a sandwich - sometimes its a treat but will take my lunch home for tea xx
