The problems in society are actually more likley to be caused by the mindless morons like yourself who look down and think our problems start and finish there. Try looking up the way, I think you'll find there are worse takers/scroungers/thieves/etc living up there squeezing us dry, than you'll ever find in your local council estate.;-)
anecdotally: last week I drove to a nearby village for a drink in the local that I hadn't visited for 20yrs. both pub and village exude real wealth. trying to find a parking space amongst the bentleys, high-end bmw's, etc. was difficult.
20+yrs ago this pub was stuffed with red-braced yuppies fingering chunky filofaxes and maserati keys. today it's full of expensive sweaters and bespoke shoes.
I recognized some of the 'old money'. one, a property developer and lettings agent, was convicted of large scale fraud about 4yrs ago and was banged away for 14 months. at the time, his friends rallied around and treated him as a victim of he judiciary rather than the dirty little fraudster that he is.
about 20 mins later I spotted another well-dressed low-life. a chartered accountant who lives in the 'big house'. his face appeared in the local rag about 10yrs ago when he faced accusations of swindling an old guy out of his cottage. the case collapsed through 'lack of evidence' but the old guy died later in sheltered accommodation.
and here they were, drinking half-pints with effortless superiority and commanding attention from assorted minions.
these well-spoken scumbags and their ilk are more likely to cause harm to society than any pregnant teenager on a sink estate.
it's a shame that some people never look 'up'.0 -
There will always be some people who are too bigoted and jealous of others to see clearly. Their blind egoism has them abusing any member of society that doesn't resemble them entirely, and pigeon-holing all into categories that allegedly legitimise that abuse. So, a single mother becomes a scrounging slapper; a poor sod suffering from depression is just a lying whining work-dodger. Ironically, when the most educated members of society (for instance, doctors) don't corroborate their views, they are labelled as liars as well. And so everything becomes a conspiracy, and these people begin to see themselves as victims. All of this is probably to create a hierarchy of deserving parts of society, consciously or not, where these people place themselves as the highest and most deserving kind. Then follows the idea that taxes should serve only those who have paid them, leading to the most dehumanising attitude of all: they would rather let those worse off than them rot in their own filth, than part with a penny of their cash to help them.
These people are those that will probably vote BNP in the next election. At best, they are incredibly gullible to attribute their woes to the unknown (those from other countries, and generally those who don't resemble them enough) - the kind of ridiculous stupidity to led to witch-hunts hundreds of years ago. And at worse, they are aggressive, hateful, and dangerously emotionally and mentally !!!!!! individuals.
Eloquent in the extreme, reading the views of these characters makes me value the people who give up their free time or cash to help others even more. It also makes me think back to the people in the past who have identified real injustice and done something about it. The likes of Wilberforce,Fry and Pankhurst.'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. A single market without barriers visible or invisible giving you direct and unhindered access to the purchasing power of over 300 million of the worlds wealthiest and most prosperous people' Margaret Thatcher0 -
At what point did the safety net of benefits and allowances to help people who fall on bad luck or ill health become a lifestyle choice for the new underclass? My guess is 1981 when huge numbers of ex-industrial workers lost work and became "long-term sick". None of our pollies since have dealt with the issue
Are you saying that many of todays problems were caused by Thatcher'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. I agree the UK is soft on white collar crime, if Conrad BLack had been taken to court in this country there is no way he would have got big prison time. The USA are far tougher and rigerous. He got 6 1/2 year sentence

You Dailymailers need to absorb SGE's post, it is spot on.
I too was once a raging Dailymailer, but gradualy came to my senses.
Yes there are plenty of workshy's and dodgers, without a doubt, including my childhood freind who was born this way.
However, instead of range and bitterness towards him I've come to recognise he is a product of his rearing.
Had I been unlucky enough to be born into his family (chaotic, no positive role model, neglect), my brain would have been imprinted minute to minute in such a manner as to almost guarantee I too would now lounge around on benefits with little self esteem.
My old Dailymailer knee - jerk response to him was premised on the notion he should wipe the slate clean, and detatch himself from his upbringing and begin again.
But, thats like saying to a hardworking Dailymailer you can if you want detatch yourself from all of your own upbringing that lead to 'you'.
The least inteligent response is this one; "My mate grew up on a council estate and he turned his life around, so why cant these ferral tearaway's".:T
A person is a product of thier surroundings, and just because some people do have the where with all to turn themselves around, others with differently imprinted brains, different Nuerological connections aren't able to take this leap.
Did you Dailymailers for example chose to like certain food tastes? No of course not, you have no choice over this just as some people have no realistic chance of altering the way they think.
Hang em high boy!!!!!!!!! :rotfl:0 -

Are you trying to imply that being on benefits is a mental illness?
This is a new idea to me! Prove it please, has research been published in the Lancet.
Do you believe in every childs pre-ordained fate to follow in parents footsteps? I think the state can stop making people unmotivated and uninvolved in there own lives. Free the people from state intervention!0
