OP - It would be better to go for constructive argument than invective IMO. Just abusing people isn't really that helpful nor is it in the spirit of the boards.

There will always be scroungers in every walk of life - that's obvious to anyone! And I'm sure there are many people claiming Benefits who lie and exaggerate their physical/mental condition. Those people who do that are despicable and are effectively taking away from those who genuinely do need the money.

HOWEVER, if someone genuinely suffers from debilitating back pain - where it goes into spasm and the person cannot move without agonising pain - then of course they cannot work.

Likewise, a person suffering from real depression can barely get out of bed due to the severity of their illness. Depression is a very real - and very dangerous - illness. Not just because they are liable to try and commit suicide, but because their life is torture for them Just because you cannot see depression, or cannot see the pain a bad back causes doesn't mean that person is not in pain or, indeed, agony.

Blimey, it is not often I agree with you but on this occasions I do!
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

we should just do what china does,

    1 Child policy.

If you on the dole, you can only have 1 child, after that child you are temporarily made infertile.

If you work you can have 2-4 children, perhaps applying for a child licence would work where your ability to 'afford' said child is assessed by a governmental body.

At least that way they'd only need 2 bed flats for a significant proportion of council properties. Seems mean, but alot of individuals put off having children to save and save for a house and security... and in the end have 1 maybe 2 children if they lucky (30-40's time).

How darwin must be turning in his grave..... Evolution where as a generalisation the non-working class, the lower educated class produce more offspring per person than the ones who learn and show greater evolutionary promise.

Basically all the intelligent people, work hard get jobs, work harder paying to soceity, have less than 2 children per 'couple' and then their genes... are lost over time.

Its quite clear people aren't personally responsible to have children within their means... to support them thereselves. Unfortunately. Our government makes a mediocre life possible for 2-8 children families.... Im not saying its a brilliant life, but it is a life that requires no intelligence, no prior training, no determination.

Of course like all generalisations there are people who this doesn't apply to, and that is the reason benefits and council houses were created... to help those who want to improve their lifes... not just stay on the benefit payroll all their lives.

So how would the current situation form into such plans? Im sure there are thousands of parents up and down the land made redundant through no fault of thier own.

What do you propose to do with them?
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast
  • I think it would be a very scary world if a "government body" was allowed to decide how many children you're allowed to have whether it be on the basis of income, intelligence or anything.

Reforming the benefit/working tax credit/child tax credit system to make it less attractive for people to have lots of children that they can't afford is one thing, turning into China quite another.

I'm no bleeding heart lefty but I'm quite horrified by some of the views on here. Makes you realise just how easy it could be for parties like the BNP to gain power in times of economic turmoil.

    Now that's funny:rotfl:.

I notice you said "boards" and not board -boards meaning all MSE boards. So the statement "abusing people...is not in the spirit of the boards" is a true statement because it encompasses all MSE boards. Whilst the statement "abusing people....is not in the spirit of the board" (meaning this one) is clearly untrue.

This forum surely takes the biscuit.

Can`t get a house, everyones fault but mine.

Can`t get a better paying job to allow me to get a house, read above.

It`s Gordon Browns fault that the majority of the developed worlds banking systems have failed.

It would have been alright under the Tories.

    Single mothers have destroyed society.

Maggie says there is no such thing as society to destroy anyway.

    Everyones fault but mine.

People on here should write a song about it.

We are simply following our leader.

unless they are genuinely to disabled to work. that means the bad back brigade and the depressed brigade can get back to work. lazy scum. who cares if you are depressed. I ain't happy, but I work.

I agree with most of what you say, I'd have these lazy workshy BAR STEWARDS hung drawn and quartered. However, there are a couple of pointers that you have got wrong.

I've got a real bad back, often it's FFing crippling, as a result of pins in my leg making it wonky, if I were working for a company then there's no way I'd make it worse going into work. Unfortunately, when I work I do stuff on my own projects, so normally use alot of pain killers. Although there are plenty of bad back brigaders who are putting it on.

On the subject of depression, I've had a full scale clinical depression, and it's a mind KCUF of the highest degree, it is a genuine struggle to get out of bed as your brain tells your body to stop putting pressure on it, and sleeping is impossible, unless taking serious sleeping pills. Although again there are plenty who are claiming depression who are not, there just a bit piZZed off. A full scale depression WILL totally scr£w you over, and there's no easy way out of it.

As for working in the depths of a REAL full scale depression, there is more chance of MR Clown sorting out the economy by close of business today. At it height I had all my assets on the line, and I was paralysed.

I'd agree about the back pain and with what PP said and I never thought I'd say that!
When I have bad back pain and I do now and again, it really hurts to sit still, it hurts even more to move, to bend down is agony, doing something like tying your shoe laces is something you can only dream about. No pain killer gets even close to blotting it out. Well cannabis or alcohol if you really want to know, do help and at least let you sleep one night of half decent sleep.
Funnily enough sitting in a good car seat is about the only time I am in low pain, yet getting in and out of the car almost makes me faint with pain.

So back pain, know about it, yet I also know there are others that abuse the system. I've never claimed any benefits for my bad back btw, even though I once had to leave a job because it was giving me bad back pain. It was a long time ago and they wouldn't believe me.
