they're already motivated to aquire what they want out of life on the meager amount they get on the dole, of course their would be a crime wave, your talking about depriving them of the things that their meager existance allows them to have already, they're not living the high life, their just living a life that makes sence to them. what you propose takes away freewill and choice.

you and i the tax payers gain nothing. so why even care?

There will always be scroungers in every walk of life - that's obvious to anyone! And I'm sure there are many people claiming Benefits who lie and exaggerate their physical/mental condition. Those people who do that are despicable and are effectively taking away from those who genuinely do need the money.

HOWEVER, if someone genuinely suffers from debilitating back pain - where it goes into spasm and the person cannot move without agonising pain - then of course they cannot work.

Likewise, a person suffering from real depression can barely get out of bed due to the severity of their illness. Depression is a very real - and very dangerous - illness. Not just because they are liable to try and commit suicide, but because their life is torture for them Just because you cannot see depression, or cannot see the pain a bad back causes doesn't mean that person is not in pain or, indeed, agony.

one poster in another thread posted along the lines of "have a right to expect reasonable house prices", which surprised me somewhat. There are no rights or guarantees in this world - except death and taxes, I must be stupid.

Of course Gordon Brown single handedly brought about the collapse of the world banks - I thought that was common knowledge, are you stupid??

And Barak Obama will single handedly save them, even if his first call to a foreign leader was to Gordon Brown - he must be stupid.

If you are in negative equity you are stupid and deserve everything you get - because you should have known 5 years ago this would happen.

If you haven't saved at least half the value of a house and have had a life over the last few years you are stupid - perhaps not quite scum.

we should just do what china does,

1 Child policy.

If you on the dole, you can only have 1 child, after that child you are temporarily made infertile.

If you work you can have 2-4 children, perhaps applying for a child licence would work where your ability to 'afford' said child is assessed by a governmental body.

At least that way they'd only need 2 bed flats for a significant proportion of council properties. Seems mean, but alot of individuals put off having children to save and save for a house and security... and in the end have 1 maybe 2 children if they lucky (30-40's time).

How darwin must be turning in his grave..... Evolution where as a generalisation the non-working class, the lower educated class produce more offspring per person than the ones who learn and show greater evolutionary promise.

Basically all the intelligent people, work hard get jobs, work harder paying to soceity, have less than 2 children per 'couple' and then their genes... are lost over time.

Its quite clear people aren't personally responsible to have children within their means... to support them thereselves. Unfortunately. Our government makes a mediocre life possible for 2-8 children families.... Im not saying its a brilliant life, but it is a life that requires no intelligence, no prior training, no determination.

Of course like all generalisations there are people who this doesn't apply to, and that is the reason benefits and council houses were created... to help those who want to improve their lifes... not just stay on the benefit payroll all their lives.
