We had a Nick Ashley shop in our town (son of Laura Ashley the designer).
It was a clothing boutique in the late 70's.

Me again! You aren't thinking of Shoe Zone are you? They have their head office in Leics?

Whilst on about shoes - our Priceless used to be called Bacons Shoes - anyone recall that?

We also had a Berni Inn as well. I don't think that they are around anymore though.

We've got a Budgens in Shepshed I think... and its big as well.

Hi TDA10 - nope, I know Shoe Zone's head office is here, I used to see it every night coming home from work on the train... when I saw Shoe Zone I would put my MP3 player away cos I knew I was nearly here - is just behind Leicester station. Shoe Fayre head office is definitely here... its in Wigston.
And we have Stead and Simpson head office near my FIL and step-MIL's house. Lots of shoe chain head offices here!!!

  • Not sure if this was just in Scotland (as they were part of the Goldbergs empire) - WRYGGES - the younger version of Goldbergs.

Stakis Steakhouses - several in Glasgow many years ago - I remember thinking how I'd finally made it I was when I could afford to go there for dinner with some friends.

Also remember having tons of Dash and Together clothing (including a white all in one jumpsuit - cringe!).

Liptons/Galbraiths - not sure if they were one and the same

    Clydesdale electrical

    C&A

Woolco (there was a huge one in Cumbernauld - wasn't connected to Woolies - could have been a part of Asda)

Pik and Save - sort of cash and carry type place

Watt brothers Glasgow (still there but it's shrunk-my granny used to spend a whole day in there)

Lewis's Glasgow - where Debenhams is now

but of course none of the high street ever compared with the excitement of you mum's "club book" (mail order catalogue) arriving twice a year and spending days devouring every page and marking off every single item you wanted (and didn't get!)

What about fosters menswear? The one that used to sell suits only Duran Duran would get away with?

This thread is bringing back loads of memories, we had two shoe shops that have closed now Lennards and Tandem.
The Missing Label was a store that sold seconds that didn't meet quality control from M&S and other big stores.
I remember my parents getting their first big fridge freezer and going to Capital the freezer shop.
We also had Razzle Dazzle which sold plasticy necklaces and bangles, y'know the red beads and earrings and chunky plastic bangles that were big in the 80's.

We had a fine-fare that became gateway then solo then eventually somerfield. it has now been knocked own and a lidl is in its place. We still have a wimpey.

Shoppers Paradise was a cheapy supermarket that my mum worked in when younger.

I remember Etam and tammy girl and Snob was upstairs. Also Splash which was a clothing store.

Foggy's sold cheap electricals and homewares.

We still have a Victoria wine and haddows. We used to have an agnews.

We used to have a Presto and a woolies.
Sunshine Kids was a cheapy kids clothing place.
    Stereo1 was a record shop.
