Small world, my son was an extra on Byker Grove about 8 years ago, we ended up videoing the entire series just so we'd captured the odd shot of him! We renamed the show "Spot The Dan"! :D

I've just had a google and apparently the last Geordie Jeans shop closed in 2004, I thought they'd gone long before that.

I was on about 20 years ago when Ant & Dec/PJ & Duncan were in it, they weren't big then it was before they'd even released any records.

I forgot about Galls. Maybe that was just a Scottish chain? Used to sell ladies clothing and if I remember correctly, it also sold wool.

    Just remembered Radio Rentals!
For all you youngsters, in the 1930s/40s they rented out radio sets then moved to TVs in the 50s. By the early 1980s we went there to rent video players...

    Geordie Jeans! :T

Everyone from the north-east who was a teenager in the 80's must have owned at least one pair of Geordie Jeans. Every time a new craze came out, pinstriped, stripe down the side, coloured turn-ups etc. we'd be there buying a new pair.

Also Robert Anthony for cheap jewellery, me & my friends would be in there every Saturday buying something with our pocket money, you could get a silver chain for a couple of pounds. I think my very first digital watch came from there!

Geordie Jeans - my god, there a blast from the past!!! I never had anything from there (too young at the time when they were at their height) but my bro/sis must have done as I remember seeing the carrier bag lying around the house.

Robert Anthony - was that the one in the Grainger Market??? I remember that. I think my first ear piercing (I was 7 and it went septic!!! Then my second ear piercing - I was 11 and I remember thinking oh god my mum's going to kill me but she was actually quite pleased as it meant I could wear nice earrings for my sis's wedding!!!) was done there. (They must have made a good job - 17 years later and its still fine!!!)

One Stop News at the Monument (think it's still there?) me and all my school mates used to descend on there after school - as did most of the schools in Newcastle I think ha ha. But there was always a swarm of us in our horrible grey uniforms (Sacred Heart to anyone who knows the area) we used to send the shop assistants half demented!! Ha ha!!

I thought there was an HPJ in Eldon Square next to New Look? Or has that closed now???

My parents bought a video recorder around 1981. We were the first amongst my friends to get one, so it was round to my house most Saturday nights. The machine cost £600, and to rent a video was a fiver!

Wimpy is definately still going, as there are quite a few round london *roman rd/ lewisham are 2 I can remember- plus a couple Ive been unfortunate to eat in at services ( norton canes??) they are a franchise.

Budgens definately still going in london, maybe its only us that will pay the ridiculous prices :D

I too remember presto in Newcastle Upon tyne.

Partners, I used to go in with my spends to buy scented rubbers ( ice cream/ strawberry) another thing outlawed by the H&S crew as too many kids used to eat them!

Also another one that has bit the dust- was it national - Toy & Hobby?

In Altrincham for you northerners- there used to be Bens 50p shop. Still a standing joke with the family. Doesnt it show how times have changed! This was the precursor to the pound shop! .

And talking of real crap/ cartalogue returns/ seconds there was in the nort west

Select Seconds ( bolton I particularly remember)
Terrys of urmston  Anyone remember this hell hole :D
    and hitchens?
Surely none of these are still going :)
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast
