does derby still have birds the confectioners now that was a real treat!
Yes, we still have Birds with their enormous Elephant's Foot cakes and the lovely meringues with pink chocolate grated on them! Primark actually had a shop on Babington Lane even earlier - about 1976 I think. It was next to Brentford Nylons!0 -
The main supermarket in my home town was Key Markets for years, then Gateway and now Somerfield I believe although I've not been there for a while. There was also a Fine Fare that I think was a Bejams (sp?) for a while. They also had a Forbuoys there which used to be another newsagents, the name of which escapes me.
I used to go to Brighton alot as a youth and remember the Reject Shop with those novelty pin things you'd stick your hand or face in and it would leave an impression.0 -
Lincoln still has various Co-ops, which somehow have survived.
But the Supa-Coop has long gone. That was very 70's,These are my thoughts and no one else's, so like any public forum advice - check it out before entering into contracts or spending your hard earned cash!
I don't know everything, however I do try to point people in the right direction but at the end of the day you can only ever help yourself!0 -

Geordie Jeans! :T
Everyone from the north-east who was a teenager in the 80's must have owned at least one pair of Geordie Jeans. Every time a new craze came out, pinstriped, stripe down the side, coloured turn-ups etc. we'd be there buying a new pair.
Also Robert Anthony for cheap jewellery, me & my friends would be in there every Saturday buying something with our pocket money, you could get a silver chain for a couple of pounds. I think my very first digital watch came from there!
I remember going to Laws for our food shopping.I was sick in their once and my mum was mortified :rotfl:. I remember being fascinated at how fast the checkout girls typed the prices in on the tills (the chucky lady I called em:o)
Finally, I can see you crystal clear0 -
Damn you Lynz ~ you beat me with Toy and Hobby lol!!

I think it might even be in something like the Salford Lowry shopping centre or something similar! Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind

beatties toy shop?
Hi, hell yes - Birds is everywhere and still going strong thank goodness!I'd chop me head off if that ever shut down - best cakes in the universe!
Every Friday me and OH have 'Friday Cake day' (how sad!) and bob off to Birds - usually for a Princess Sandwich, which is one of the sponge sandwiches with chocolate and 'green bits' on! BEAUTIFUL!!!
Primark has reopened too - was shut down when the new Westfield Centre came (too cheap for that 'kind' of centre apparently ) It's now on the Cornmarket in the old Littlewoods building and 3 floors of it too!
No Beatties though - not sure where that was?
(Erm, just another cheeky reminder - give that thanks button a slap for the OP - it won't bite ya know, and this is a cracking thread!)
