Ah John Menzies - my first ever part time job (who wouldnt allow me time off to pick up my A-level grades as 'it wasnt an important enough reason' yet they allowed one of the other staff time off when his girlfriend was getting her GCSE grades - sheesh!!) now part of Smith's isnt it???

There's a Wimpy in Nottingham as well....

    Thinking now....

Allsports? Worked there when I was at uni, not surprised it went bust tbh!!!
Think MediCentre is still around... fairly sure there's one in Newcastle (or there was till recently)
Our local supermarket was Safeway but I vaguely remember Lipton's and Presto's as well... and Laws supermarket? Anyone remember the ads with Ronnie Barker?
Binns - Mum had a gold card for there but wasnt too impressed when it became House of Fraser!!!
    Dixons.... the link....
MVC.... I used to love looking in there (not that I could ever afford anytihng in there though :rotfl: )
Oh god... and here's one. What Everyone Wants? May have been called Gwhat Shoppes at one time as well. Think that was a national/maybe Northern chain? Think their head office was in Scotland. The stuff was er... very cheap :D My first bra came from there actually... but the strap snapped when I was at school a couple of months later. That shows you the quality of the stuff from there ha ha.
Ooooh, and how can I forget Littlewoods? There was a huge Iceland in there and I can recall my mum dragging me about the shop looking for various things.... ah, memories, memories! I had a grey bodysuit from there (remember them ladies??? they were ok till you needed the loo!!!!!!!) that I thought I looked great in but it was actually rather hideous!!
Most of the shops on the main high street in the city where I grew up havent really changed much tbh... HMV, BHS, Fenwicks and M&S are all still there although HMV moved a few doors up and there's a Superdrug now where HMV was, and what was Wimpy is now Burger King but that's about it really!

Sorry for the ramblings :o But once I got started I couldnt stop!!!!!!!

I seem to remember when I was about 10 there was a What She Wants in my, then, home town.

I used to have a Saturday job in Manfield the shoe shop. I then moved on to Richards, the ladies clothing shop. These two are both now long gone.

Is it my imagination or did there used to be a chain of shops called Now? They sold mens and ladies clothes.
It's wouldn't have not wouldn't of, shouldn't have not shouldn't of and couldn't have not couldn't of. Geddit?

I loved Richards shops, really miss them!

As a teenager Van Allan sold trendy clothes-three branches in Swansea, the best was near the Milkmaid & the Golden Egg. Anybody remember Mates? (not the condoms, but Etam backwards, part of the same group, only more expensive).

    Eynon's was a cafe/bakery chain round here.

As a child I always had to wait outside MacFisheries, David Greigs (Greggs?) & the Home & Colonial...were they really child-free shops?

I used to get my school shoes from there from Freeman, Hardy and Willis! I have fond memories of trying shoes on there. I also used to shop in Etam when I was a teenager, I thought I was been treated to go shopping there! Ah yes, you can not forget Littlewoods, I have memories of been treated to lunches there. I used to have an MVC card and you used to get money of if you used it. Dixons - I remember mooching around there with my father!

god I remember this one. Mother used to make us stand by the door of a saturday while she went rooting - depressing place for a teenager.

I used to prefer Snob ( anyone remember that one!) where i got my first ever pair of high heels ( platform) :) another one dead in the water.

Our Littlewoods used to sell food when I was little my mam would go round shopping and leave me at the cheese counter I loved watching the SA cut "a quarter" of cheddar on the board with the wire! don't know why but I was hypnotised. I don't think prepacked existed in the 80's.

OUrs too ( manchester city centre) my sister still bemoans that nowhere has ever started making the salt & pepper chipsticks ( similar to french fires) they used to sell in the crisp section .

those were the days, when prices used to be put on with a sticker gun- that used to fascinate me, and when my parents bought a shop, the previous owners left a sticker gun in the back- happy days as a 10 year old :D
