This is awful - I would definately write a letter of complaint and threaten to go to the papers, how degrading. I hope that it hasn't ruined your evening!
I shop at Morrisons frequently in a small store and was very shocked to read this..definately a case of power going to peoples heads

I wonder what would have happened if you had refused and carried on your way...maybe they would have rugby tackled you?;)

Letter written, time to read, read, and re-read it!

then send it recorded/special..otherwise I'm 100% sure they will ignore it, and just pretend they never received it!!!

i thought to be shoplifting you have to have left the store though?
It is policy at my local morrisons to not persue shoplifters until they have left the front doors because you havent stole anything until you do so and it can be seen as harassment. Same applys to those who opens bottles of drink or eat the food as walking ound (which appear to be common practice for a lot of parents and ill admit ive drank a full bottle of water and paid for the empty bottle perviously).

I would definately take this furthor, if even for just an appology never mind a free "compensation" gift voucher.

Also agree with the comment about the emptying smelly shoes in the managers face :D

Was this an out-of-town store or one next to others stores?

If I were the manager and it was an out-of-town store whereby most of the people would be using their cars to visit the store, and someone came in with a big bag, that looked heavy in the store (assuming you were only spotted whilst already in the store rather than when you walked trhough the door), I would be thinking you were a potential shoplifter.

I think the manager must not have spotted you when you first came in and therefore wasn't sure if you had already put items into the bag before watching you.

The CCTV doesn't give full coverage so you could have still stolen items without it being captured on film.

Therefore you must understand why you were singled out in the first place.

But I wouldn't have emptied the bag until the Manager had agreed to give me some compensation vouchers (or the original shopping that you left at the till) for free if nothing was found, for the embarassing situation and you doing nothing wrong.

in order for it to be a theft, you have to intend to permanently deprive them of something, so you would, in my opinion need to leave the store.

in this case, they've refused to serve you, and obviously think you've got something in your bag. despite having no evidence to back this up.

    complain.

also, if you decide to shop there again, I would make a point of using your own bag to pack things in. keep them on their toes.

or fill a trolley, and leave it for the manager to unpack. or ask her to check the price of every item in it.

like you say, idiot with "Power".

I wonder if you could get a copy of the tape of the store for £10 under the data protection act?

lucky you didn't have any undies in there though!
Remember the time he ate my goldfish? And you lied and said I never had goldfish. Then why did I have the bowl Bart? Why did I have the bowl?
