A higher cost accident could increase your premium.
Howvever your insurer will not allow themselves to get ripped off.
They will want proper bills (just like you wanted).
The employ solicitors, claims handlers, assesors etc. so they are in a much better posisiton to deal with this as they are professionals at this.
They won't just pay out £1500 cos they guy says so over the phone.
He was probably trying on with you but it will be a lot harder with an insurance company.0 -
When I have time I'll run some quote and give you the name of the companies (or you could do that yourself).0

So overall I am losing out on about £500+.
Still better than paying him the £1500 he needs to repair his car.

News to me then.. never heard of that before
I did some experiments on confused.com and I'm prepared to stand by what I said.
An increase in claim value affected the results I got back.
Note that I said "could" so I'm sure there are some scenrios where it will and some where it wont.
I would personally doubt that at the level we are talking about (relatively very small) that a slight increase will make any difference, but I don't think he'll get away with trying to increase the bill (unless he's in cahoots with a car dealer).0 -

Why would he want to " increase the bill " anyway?...there would be no financial or other gain, via an insurance claim surely.
As I said, I have never heard of such a thing before.0 -
Why would he want to " increase the bill " anyway?
Outside insurance, he may want to pocket the £1500 and just put up with a scratched car or get it fixed cheaper at a back street garage and keep the change.
I agree with you that there is no benefit at all to him bumping up the bill when going through insurance because he will not receive any cash.
I only mentioned it because Lokolo is keen for the bill not be any higher than necessary, but as you say, there is no benefit to the 3rd party at all in doing this.0 -
Yeh when I got in and sorted things out, making sure my car was all fine and dandy I sent him an email asking if we could do it outside of insurance. He rang me on Monday then told me, so I said stuff it I will get insurance to sort it and get them to asses the damage themselves because I felt his quote was extorniate. Meh nevermind.
Urm yeh I can't remember who I looked at as it was years ago but when I put 0 in (as in I didn't know the damage cost) it didn't change when I put the actual amount in.0 -
Glad you seem to be over it now Lokolo.;)0
