Don't forget that an assesor might be involved who may have to travel to the garage.
Claims handlers at the insurers will be involved to authorise the repair.
There will be databases used to check for fraudulent claims.
There will be call center people employed to answer your questions.
I can't put a figure on it, but it will cost most that just the cost of the damage to the insurers.
It's actually quite logical that you should pay more.
You wouldn't want to pay more for other people's accidents would you?
BTW - Have you actually got a quote or is that a figure you are assuming?
I'd suggest you give it a go on a comparison site.
You might be suprised (don't put in real email or phone numbers unless you are really lonely).
LOL that made me laugh.
Um no thats what the guy on the other line said, he said it will go up by the 40% you gained from NCB.
I can't see it being much cheaper than that though, 21year old by that time, with a crash on it its just going to still be quite expensive, its Third Party Fire Theft as well not Fully Comp.
I hope having a licence for 4 years will help though.0 -
Hence why my original question was: is there anyway I can get an individual assesment rather than just take his word for it.
You can certainly ask to see his breakdown and written quotes, but it sounds like you have gone to insurers already so it's a fait acompli.
Dealing with such a person out of insurance would be quite risky.
If he's inclined to rip you off then you might find a person injury claim coming later for whiplash and if you've already admitted liability then you will have predujiced your insurance.
I realise the risk of injury is non-existant but if he's the kind of personality who will try it on then it's dangerous to deal with him yourself, so I don't think there is any option.
As you now know the pitfalls then I'd suggest being ultra careful if only for economic reasons and the fact that there are those kinds of people around.
As I said, if I'm in any doubt then I'll reverse a bit, get out, reverse a bit, get out etc.
Might add on 2 minutes but better that the situation you are facing IMO.0 -
From the sounds of it you got reversed into head on, am I correct? I reversed into his side wing. By all means, if I had reversed into the front of his car I would expect the damages to be a lot more and would understand it costing around £3k. And my attitude is I would rather have someone assess it indepenatly than take his word for it, what else is there? Its not like I am trying to get out of not paying for it is it.
And those savings are only from a cheapdebt, not really viable for paying for it.
I am just glad I have a decent paying job next year!
Yes it was right on the front. My car doesn't have bumpers so it was right onto the body. The scuff was probably less than 6 inches. But the point is, you can't just touch up the bit. No way would I have accepted a Chipsaway type repair. It had to be done properly and that meant removal of the WHOLE front section and doors, respraying and replacement.
It sounds like the car you damaged will need a couple of panels repaired. These will then possibly need to be blended with other panels.
If the damaged car is still under warranty (e.g. paint and anti-corrosion) then it is essential the owner gets it repaired in accordance with manufacturer's specs and through an authorised dealer.0 -

Well I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news but I don't think he's told you the WHOLE story.
You initially premium will probably also be higher because of the accident.
This means that it won't just be 40% it will be BIGGER than that.
Let me explain with an explain.
Suppose premium is £1000 but you get 40% discount, then it's £600.
Because of the accident your premium is now £1200 with 0% discount, so now it has DOUBLED.
This is just an example to demonstrate the principle so don't read anything into the actual amounts.
Sorry friend, but I think you premium will rise AS WELL as your loss of discount.0 -
Yeh this year it was £444/445. Which means it was just under £800, (£800 with 40% off is then £480). So it will go upto £800, then plus a little (ha, little) more because of the accident.
Then I have the next couple of years being higher still, because of NCBs lost. So overall I am losing out on about £500+.0 -
...............
And yes I know it was my fault. He was in my blind spot and there was someone in the back (I can't see through peoples heads).
I am sorry you had this happen and are so upset.
I would let the insurance deal with it and learn a lesson to protect your NCB as soon as you are able.
I don't think anyone with a half decent car is going to accept anything less than a dealership repair.
Be thankful it wasn't a child and that nobody was injured, that is the most important thing in any accident.xxxdxxx
With compassision, good manners, kindness and dignity as your ticket you will travel far in life.0 -

Well that's because an NCB is a bonus system to reward people who make no claims.
You seem to be very pre-occupied with the money side of things, which is understandable right now, but you don't seem to want to take on board the errors in your driving which could potentially have a much greater human cost. If it had been a motorbike you might have knocked it over and it might have injured someone (and repair costs would pale into comparison with injuries).
If you are ONLY motivated by money, then I'm personally glad that it's an amount that will make you sit up and take note.
If you won't reflect on your mistakes for any other reason then pershaps the cost will force you to consider changing your driving behaviour, which would be a good thing for other motorists.0 -
Yeh I won't be as nice on the road in the future. I should have got the other car to reverse instead of me, but if I do I won't reverse until I get my passengers to duck their heads0

Lokolo, once the matter is in the hands of your insurers, it doesn't make any difference to you or your insurance renewal costs, if it costs £1 or a £10.000, your insurers will pay.;)0

I didn't think this was the case because when I went to compare insurance a few years ago and if you put an accident in, it asks the approximate cost of damages?0
