so surely they would have other cars rather than use a hire car?
Mostly company car are allocated to individuals and they keep them permanently and there are none sitting around doing nothing.
Normally however it is the case that a "courtesy car" would be available either free or for a nominal charge if they are going to a proper garage like a main dealer.
I think the point is that there could be other costs included in the £1500 in addition to just repairs.
e.g. maybe the guy needs a taxi to get to the garage to pick it up and perhaps his wife (who shares the car) needs a taxi for the school run (instead of hire car).
Although I have to say it sounds high, you really cannot judge without a breakdown.
Sounds like to me they have picked a number out of the air in the hope that you are going to pay because maybe you have a reason not to go through insurance.
I'm sorry if this person is ripping you off, but you can't complain about insurers putting your premium up once you've had an accident.
If you aren't as careful as others then you will have to pay more that's only fair.
Without getting into detail about the technique, it's clear that you are less careful than others and make many assumptions.
There is no way my arthritic disabled MIL could move out of your way whilst you did 5 yards.
I know you probably won't take this suggestion seriously but you could consider some advanced traiing at a group such as the IAM.
I've just done the IAM motorbike training and I'm a much better (and faster) rider and I've had a great time doing it.
EDIT: and you can get insurance discounts for doing further training.0 -
If someone reversed into me & I had to go & get quotes & put them to him & he then refuse them & I had to ring the insurance & then I had to book my car in a the dealers & then take it there (& take time off work to do so) & then pick it up (& again take time off work to do so).
Thats how he is suffering.
He's ALREADY been put out, because you reversed into him.
I know you don't know this, but the dealer is in the same industrial estate as his business lol, which is ironically down the road from where I reversed into him. However I will admit I most probably caused him from stress as he was already late for a sales meeting and I most probably made him a bit later lol.But I personally wouldn't let anyone mess me around with quotes & haggling with me. It goes into the dealers & they can sort it out with their insurance. MY attitude is like that BECAUSE OF PEOPLE LIKE YOU:rolleyes:
I am not going to respond to you because you aren't giving me any help and just bashing like a troll (and I know you're not one but I can't understand why you're being such an argh about it)
At no point am I saying I haven't been rather annoying in reversing into him, nor am I saying I am not taking responsibility, nor am I saying I want to make him worse off in anyway. MrsTine has already stated hers (assuming its MrsT and not Mr on her account) was around £800 which just backs me up further, because the damage I caused was minimal. He tooks details from the 'guy who saw it all' (can't think of the world meh!), took my details, gave me his business card, and drove off. If the car needed vital repairs, surely he wouldn't have been able to drive it on the road? (genuine q, but I'd rather someone else reply)
lisyloo - I agree with everything you said in that post, thank you. By all means I would be pretty annoyed if I couldn't drive my car etc. but it seems as though its all sorted as the accident happened Friday and he phoned me Monday morning which is what actually made me a bit dubious about it. Thats the bit that just ****** me off because I was being honest with everything I had done, I gave all my details and chatted to the driver quite happily, then his manager phoned and was a complete **** about it.
But I will wait to see what DL say and how much they say it will cost, and hopefully, see if I can 'buy it off'.
Ha yeh I was only moaning by the fact it will double to around £900 which is rediculous. I paid £1300, then £700, then £400, then accident, back upto £900.0 -

My main dealers is an hour (ish) each way
I wasn't trying to haggle !!!!!!. Read my bloody post, I said a fair assesment. He was just pulling excuses as to why it cost £1500. He didn't even mention the wing when I asked him why it was so extorniate

YOU BASHED into his car, now you are complaining about things. If you don't want this agro, look where you are bloody reversing!

You know, different models cost different amounths to repair:rolleyes:
A repair on a BMW (for example) will cost more than a cheaper car:rolleyes:
Last time I looked it was a public forum:rolleyes:0 -

Of course, my car would cost peanuts compared to his but you can't say that a side wing and paint job on the bumper (I scratched it, you can see the paint on my bumper, and the other bit on the bumper where it went into his side wing) costs £1500.... he is saying he needs a whole new bumper which is why I am annoyed.
Fair enough I would expect it to be £1500 if it wasn't drivable on the roads but everything was in working order and it looked like someone had just smashed it with a hammer in the side and keyed the bumper lol. If you saw the car I have you would see why it can't cause that damage (sh*t mobile woo...).Last time I looked it was a public forum:rolleyes:
Indeed but I don't see the need for you to be extremely unhelpful towards me? People get banned for it! Have you seen Sigur lately?0 -

You're suggesting I will get banned for being unhelpful to you:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
The world really does owe you a living doesn't it:rolleyes:  :rolleyes:0 -

I didn't say you should get banned, I just said people get banned for it and so there isn't any need for it.
I don't understand the second bit.0 -

With the greatest respect Lokolo, you have no way of telling exactly how much damage you did, you are not an expert on cars, the damage that you can actually see, may well not be all of the damage done, if the inner wing was damaged, that will cost a hefty amount to rectify and the other vehicle owner is fully entitled to a full and proper repair to his vehicle.
As I said before, notify your insurers, move on.;)0 -
Seems to me that £1500 from main dealer is not excessive at all.
Someone reversed into my car about 2 years ago. There was a scuff on it and a chipped piece of fibreglass. However, after getting 3 quotes, the cheapest was £2800 for the removal of the front end of the car, removal of all light fittings, badges, grill, etc, and respray of front and doors (to blend). Even a replacement badge was over £50.
Doubtless your insurers will now deal with it. But I must say, your attitude really isn't helpful.
It was entirely your fault. I notice from your signature that you have significant savings to help you on this so I doubt you will go hungry...0 -

I will once my insurance company come back and tell me it does cost £1500. Fair enough it does thats fine, I just can't believe he is saying he needs a new bumper when I only scratched it, and that that and a new side wing + any other things, actually makes it to £1500. Hence why my original question was: is there anyway I can get an individual assesment rather than just take his word for it.Seems to me that £1500 from main dealer is not excessive at all.

From the sounds of it you got reversed into head on, am I correct? I reversed into his side wing. By all means, if I had reversed into the front of his car I would expect the damages to be a lot more and would understand it costing around £3k. And my attitude is I would rather have someone assess it indepenatly than take his word for it, what else is there? Its not like I am trying to get out of not paying for it is it.
And those savings are only from a cheapdebt, not really viable for paying for it.
I am just glad I have a decent paying job next year!0 -

Don't forget that an assesor might be involved who may have to travel to the garage.
Claims handlers at the insurers will be involved to authorise the repair.
There will be databases used to check for fraudulent claims.
There will be call center people employed to answer your questions.
I can't put a figure on it, but it will cost most that just the cost of the damage to the insurers.
It's actually quite logical that you should pay more.
You wouldn't want to pay more for other people's accidents would you?
BTW - Have you actually got a quote or is that a figure you are assuming?
I'd suggest you give it a go on a comparison site.
You might be suprised (don't put in real email or phone numbers unless you are really lonely).0
