Hi, this is the Daily Thread for munday 26th Jan. This is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread that we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we have achieved already. Everyone is welcome so please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well”, type start does just as well.
Morning.
Cold here today 6c but the wind giving that chill factor. Some 5mm of rain overnight. Missed yesterday morning as I went to work early to deal with some idiot who set fire to his g/friends house because he was drunk and they got in to an argument. Waste of space? or suitable for rehabilitation? not sure really....Generally though I err on the side of the firing squad.
Work today where I have a driving test to make sure I can still drive fast. Then a rather unfortuate committee meeting for the school governors where we decide who of the teaching staff loses their jobs. Yep the school has to get rid of 4 teachers because the government does not provide enough money for schools despite their claims. They can invest 5.5 million in a new building, nice, but the general money is down.
OH made a nice chicken stew last nigtht and I drank far too much coffee after that I could not sleep. I remember looking at my watch every hour...
Well time for a shower and see what today brings. Cheers folksNO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0 -
Hoorah! I've been sat here procrastinating until you started this N9EAV!!
Been for my run and looking forward to a busy day at work. Thank you all so much for your messages on Friday-had a fab weekend with OH.
Love to all who need it and all who think they don't but probably would like some anyway!!

Mornin all,
I have woken up in a "feeling down about everything" mood today:( I am not too sure why, I think it's the fact that all I ever hear on the news is more people losing their jobs and old people that can't afford to heat their homes and animals been dumped because their owners can't afford to keep them it's always bad news. I am constantly on edge as I was made redundant last June it took until Sept to find a job although it's only long term temp and I don't think they will renew mt contract at the beggining of Feb as theyare making all the cost cuts they can:(. We will be in serious trouble if I lose my job.
Sorry for the rant I just needed to get it off mychest.
Anyway yest was a very OS day for me I cleaned the house top to bottom baked buns and a fruitcake and line dried all washing, it felt good knowing all the things I was doing was saving money(lord knows I need to!!)
So I will be on here even more often as I need to make every penny count.
Hope everyone else starts their day better than mine and big hugs to those who are unwell or upset.
Right better get read for work.

Morning n9eav, coldstream and all to follow.
We've had a quiet day here - it's Australia Day so no work. I spent 5 hours ironing  . As you might guess, we haven't done any for a while
. OH has been to buy some new doors and is now cutting the grass. I haven't posted for a few days - to those who asked, no, I am not in some area of the UK experiencing a freak heatwave, but rather in sunny Melbourne. 35 tomorrow. Yuk, too hot for me. We'd love some rain so feel free to send it this way.
Have been cooking some new recipes recently - made Jamie O's turkey and leek pie, with chicken rather than turkey. Threw in some mushrooms and onion too and didn't use creme fraiche as OH is intolerant to dairy. It was delicious. Also made cinnamon tear and share bread as per a suggestion I saw by thriftlady on another thread. That was lovely but I used the dough recipe on the back of the yeast packet and it came out a little dry. There are some muffins cooling on the side which haven't risen very much, so fingers crossed that they at least taste nice!
Dinner tonight is beef skewers - just rump steak marinaded in red curry paste let down with a little water. They'll be done on the barbie, with some veg skewers and then we'll have a little salad too.
Work tomorrow. Ho hum. I know it's wrong to wish your life away but I sure am looking forward to a time when I don't need to work (although I will probably choose to, I won't be constrained by needing a certain salary etc). Quite when this will be, or even if it will happen at all is anyone's guess, particularly given current events. I can't help but wonder what the retirement age will be for my generation.
Am off to explore hm granola. You can buy yoghurts in the supermarket here which are natural yoghurt, fruit puree and granola. They're delicious but it's clearly not that hard to make them at home so I'm going to surf until I find a nice looking granola recipe.
Hugs to anyone in need, things just seem to be so awful for so many people at the moment.0 -
Morning all,
Seems very cold here today, had a lazy day yesterday, did not do much at all, we took little dog up the beach and lasted all of 20 mins  , it was blowing a gale and the sea was so rough, dd's hands went blue in the cold, so we came home, I watched a film I have been waiting to see, oh surfed the net, and dd pottered and did some homework.
Did not end up having a roast, so will do that for tea today, yesterday we had chicken thighs roasted, bread and butter and salad, so nice and easy.
Need to have a quick tidy today, beddingto wash, cookies to make and an online shop to do, should keep me out of trouble  .
Vicky A, hugs to your dear mum xx
Any news about the Bargain Baby ?
Take care all, have good days xx
Edited to say, did anyone watched the Julie Walters programme last night ? it was brilliant, very well done, and I sobbed at the end

Good morning everyone. N9eav - how awful that there isn't the money to keep teachers on, yet the Government wastes our money every chance they get.
Daisychain - I've been feeling down lately with the news; the country is in a really bad way and I wonder just how bad it's going to get and how many people will suffer, through no fault of their own. Good luck with your own situation.
Well, I have put the BM on and the WM is ready to go on. It's a bit cool here but dry at the moment.
I shall have a whip round with the duster and the hoover this morning; didn't do much yesterday because my back was playing up and we had lots of visitors in the afternoon. I must pop out and get some milk, and I shall also buy some more wool. I won a tenner on the lotto - first ticket I've bought for ages, so not a bad result.
Dinner tonight is chilli with rice and something undecided for pudding.
I'll call back later - just looked at the clock and it's later than I thought!

Good morning everyone,
I'm just about to get breakfast. I have leftover clapshot (mashed swede and potato) to which i am going to add flour to make cakes and fry with some bacon.
I also have leftover haggis which we'll have for tea. Seeing as it is Chinese New Year I'm wondering whether to stir fry it with beansprouts and soy sauce -or do you think that is fusion food gone too far?:p
We'll probably have haggis hash.
Lunch boxes are ham rolls, flapjacks and grapes. I'll have some soup from the freezer when I get back from my French class.
Everyone should be well enough to go to school today, so must write a note for dd's teacher.
See you later;)0 -
Morning all
I've taken hubby to the station, not sure whether or not he'll get a full day in. There is nothing else when this job is done, so he will be out of work in a week or so, lets just hope I don't lose my job over the report on Friday.
Hugs to Daisychain, hope something turns up for you.
I can't say I'm looking forward to work today, I wonder who will swear at me next as I follow the heads instruction to turn people away.
I hope everyone has a good day.
Hugs Hester

Good Morning All
Happy Chinese New Year - we will be celebrating properly when we go to Chinatown on Sunday.
Daisychain - I know its really hard at the moment, there is good news out there but only the bad is reported. I am a great believer in positive thinking. I feel urgh at the moment but think its more about the weather - I cant stand this time of year.
Busy day here today, loads of paperwork to do, need to make an appointment for OH to see the Doc and pop into Iceland for this weeks shopping as I have a money off voucher. (Only £2 but every little helps). Need to finish this weeks menu plan before I go - am struggling this week.
Roast Pork for dinner.
Have a great day.

Hester - hope you have a better day today!0 -
Morning all.
I need to do a quick tidy round this morning after school run as I have a couple of friends and babies coming with 'pot luck' lunch. I baked carrot, cardamon and bourbon cupcakes for the occasion and will do some salad and potato wedges too. That'll probably be it for me for the day cos we'll have a lovely afternoon chatting, chilling out and catching up. This this eve when the kids are in bed I'm going over to a friend to write our business plan - we're starting a small business baking cupcakes and cookies for weddings. We already had a few orders from word of mouth but have decided to try and make a proper go of things this year. Doubt I'll ever earn me enough to give up the day job but we both love doing it and if it brings in a few pennies...People seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.
