Panasonic are ultra reliable. Also as Panasonic are the biggest selling DVD recorders in the world that makes DVD-RAM also the biggest.

Where do you get your figures from?

Are you a Panasonic employee? You seem to worship the space they occupy.:D
I can quote you many pages on broken Panasonic DVD recorders

The big minus with Panasonic machines is that you cannot record widescreen programs to DVD-R discs.

DVD-RAM is not popular at all, due to the high cost of discs.

Found this quote on a review page at random, and was not hard to find :D

"i have bought 3 panasonic dvd recorders over the last 2years the 3 have been returned with the same fault( drive unit) 1 was under warrenty the others are going to cost 138 pounds and 165 pounds to repair"

Figures from internet. You can't post any pages that are written truthfull about broken Panasonics, to say that just shows how lacking in knowledge you are, for want of better words I won't post on here. If DVD-Ram are the biggest selling DVD recorders then it stands to reason they are more popular than anything. All my programmes are in widescreen. When I bought my first DVD-RAM recorder nearly 3 years ago the discs cost me £2-50. Now as I posted to you before they are just over a pound. You can't buy a GOOD...note GOOD R/W for that price. My first video recorder VIDEO tape cost me £6-00 for 2 hour. This was when Panasonic, JVC were using VHS & philips (the now + system) was using the 1500 series tapes (they still havn't progressed).. As for your random...ha ha... review, if you believe that then go to the bottom of the garden & look for fairies. Every one knows Panasonic is one of the most reliable products on the market. Yes they sometimes go wrong but nowhere near as much as philips for example, & they make sure they devolop there products before marketing them. Anyhow if people want to buy the hard drive recorder advertised in this thread then good luck to them, they won't be able to record for 4 hours onto a DVD in the quality of Panasonic. You always get people who buy these cheap recorders (there eyes light up at the 160 gig HD) they then say it's the best thing they've bought without any knowledge of other makes & just how much better they are, then a few months later you start to read on all forums about problems here & problems there. It's just like people who boast about having a 100 watt per channel amp & they bought it cheap when in fact it's probably 5 watts music power at 10% or higher THD... I could go on & on, I've seen it all before.
    Nice to save.

    Hi.

Where can I get DVD-RAM discs that cheap?

Cheapest I have seen are 5 Panasonics for a tenner at Dixons.

    Thanks.

    Satisfied DMRES20D owner!

I did venture into the PVR market (ALDI 101 and Fusion 200) but ran into reliability problems before I even got going.

Topfield 5800, twin tuner, freeview, usb connection, 160gb hd, record 2 programs whilst watching another, no dvd recorder, but can use usb to connect to pc to burn to disc, dead easy to setup and use.
Excellent build and quality and a great forum to help you.
And best of all got rid of Sky, saving me £25.00 a month.
    Love it
  • I have had a Panasonic DMRE-50 DVD Recorder for the past three years and have found it to be first class. The only down side I find is the length of time it takes to recognise a disc when it is first put in.

Haven't they changed that to Life's Good now to rid themselves of their old image ?
I think Life's Good is just an advertising slogan...

Well done (hope you didn't google it).
I've been involved in the electronics world long enough to remember all that lot, not to mention stores like Laskys and Ketts... :DSaisho was the brand used by Currys, Matsui by Dixons as you say - a lot of their TVs and VCRs were made by Orion... I don't know about now (can't remember the last time I opened up a TV - now you just throw it away!)

Sansui was a good Japanese audio brand from what I remember...
