And just to add to the always lively debate on Ebuyer - I've been using them for about 4 years, and had no problem at all.

Once I did try to phone them for more info on a product, but after 3 days, 3 phone calls, each time being told I was at lowest 57th in the queue (no joke!) I never did phone them again. So guess if you did have a problem and needed to talk to them, it would be a problem.

Are you trying to say that because Panasonic are the biggest selling DVD recorders out there then they are the best??? If you are then:

You are kidding me - lol

I was pointing out that Panasonic are the biggest selling DVD recorders in the world so far from being finished DVD-RAM is more compatable than people state. Toshiba, Samsung & JVC also do DVD-RAM.

There are PVR hard drive recorders, DVD hard drive recorders, Sky hard drive recorders & -/+ R/W but only DVD-RAM is ultra reliable as a re recordable format, at this moment.

I have a Digifusion pvr, this has lost me a couple of recordings, all makes do. R/Ws, I've thrown loads out. Hard drives are known to fail at any time.

But Panasonic DVD recorders are without doubt the best there are. If you want to buy any make of recorder & put 4 hours recording onto one DVD it will be a little grainy..call it what you want, but the Panasonics 4 hour record is really good & very watchable.

I also like Pioneer,Toshiba,Sony JVC to name some. I'm afraid, like it or not "You get what you pay for"
    Nice to save.

is better and not much more (if any more) than the e-buyer one :)

Do a search for this one on froogle and cheapest is £300!! So a great price.

I personally agree with L.S.D. about the Panasonic machines - I purchased a Panasonic EH50 just before Christmas and it is the best recorder I have had so far (this is my 3rd). The quality on the 4 hour setting is fantastic compared to other recorders, even the longest setting is watchable.

My first recorder was a cheap Japanese make which was barely better than VCR quality on its best setting, I then purchased an LG recorder (can't remember the model number) early last year and that wasn't much better - on it's best setting it was quite good but anything other than the top setting was worse than VCR quality and the lowest setting was almost unwatchable.

Slightly off topic but I frequently hear comments on LG.

Does anyone know who they used to be - back in the 70s I believe?

I'll give you a clue - Think Initials.

More recent than that I think you'll find. Lucky Goldstar of course.

Like a lot of Korean companies they realised that bad quality plastic and pure cost-driven manufacture was not going to buy them market share... hence the move towards much better quality (along with the likes of Daewoo and Samsung - though Samsung were always a step ahead in the quality stakes).

Well done (hope you didn't google it).

Goldstar products were always no better than Amstrad and Sansui or Matsui (Dixons own, I think)

I also agree with the 'brand' argument. My first DVD recorder was a LiteOn LVW-5005. Went wrong after a few weeks. Got another, which packed in after another month (discs from LiteOn reduced recording errors - but not failures). Got another which stopped recording after 6 weeks. The store then stopped selling the LVW-5005, so replaced with a LiteOn LVW-5006. First one was dead on arrival. Second one lasted 3 and a half weeks. I then tried some other 'cheap' recorders including a Daewoo (I was not happy with the tuner - which was very poor IMO) and one the Tesco ones, also tried an LG - without that much success. Then finally got my money back, and decided to spend a little more on a better one. Got a Sony half price down from £250, which is much better. Such a relief now to have a machine that works!

Haven't they changed that to Life's Good now to rid themselves of their old image ?
