Neg for Excessive Postage

So if the seller uses Paypal postage or Smartstamp and chooses not to display the postage price, how does this affect matters?

If anyone did not know the actual stamp price of the item, would there be as many complaints I wonder?

Maybe ebay will end up going down that route forcing everyone to buy postage through paypal and with no cost seen, there will be no more complaints about high postage...
  • I buy and sell on ebay and know that postage and packaging cost isnt just the price of the stamp (packaging, getting to the post office etc) but i do think that sellers should state the service that will be used and EBay should scrap the "sellers standard rate" so buyer have a clear picture of what service they are paying for.

Buyer perception is a wonderful thing - I've experimented with various selling ID's in the past, and found that I could charge twice as much on P&P if I used new packaging, 1st class postage, and suppressed the prices, yet still hold a P&P DSR of 4.85...

The item cost me about 80p to post + a Jiffy bag (about 6p bought bulk) - I was charging £3 and my stars indicated that nobody was too upset. I even ran with the postage at £4 for a month, and the star rating wavered between 4.7 and 4.8.

I dropped the price back to £3, posted next day, but used 2nd class and again no prices displayed. DSR rating back up to 4.8+...

The following month, £3, 1st class, prices displayed - DSR rating to 4.6.

So I "make" over £2 on P&P, yet my customers still indicate that they are happy.

Most of my current items go first class, however due to their weight and nature, I often get multiple orders that exceed the 1st class limit, and go into Standard parcels or Courier weight brackets. I use SSR as I can not tell until the customer has completed the order which service will be used.

Standard seller rate are what the seller tick? There are options for the seller to clarify what method of post it would be, If buyer is not sure then should ask in all cases.

Seriously people who complain about excessive pp charge needs to get their heads examined. The charges are clearly displayed, why complain after agreeing to purchase at stated price?

Whether it reflects the postage/wrapping costs are irrelevant.

No that's quite understandable. It costs a lot of time to wait around for someone and deal with the niceties of an in person transaction and associated arrangements. Usually much longer than just shipping it.

I charge double my P&P rate for anyone who requests a personal collection. And its cash only so no Paypal cover.

I wouldnt deal with you then ! If your a business, your open, it takes 2 minutes to collect something. IMHO this just typifies the wild west of ebay - best avoided if at all possible - barrow boy traders hiding behind the internet.

The total price you pay is the important thing. Dressing it up differently doesn't change that. However if someone takes the mick they will still get positive feedback from me but less stars for the postage :)
