Neg for Excessive Postage
Comments

If the postage is too high you just don't buy. Negatives are for exceptional circumcises such as items not received and no response from the seller. The DSR's are there to mark down areas of poor service so just give them a 1 star for postage.0

I agree its wrong to neg for postage as I feel I am quite fair about my postage and would be livid if I got a neg for postage, however as in the case of my colleague whilst no problems with the item she recieved, I have to agree it was badly wrapped in some old stained wrapping paper...and whilst I use recyled for some of my items, this was badly done and I as a seller would have been embrassed to send something out in that state.Don't neg for the postage - you knew the total price when bidding and were clearly happy to pay that - actual postage cost is irrelevant.
However, if having paid a premium for postage, the item is not well packaged then that does deserve a neg.
The seller charged £5.00 for P&P but the whole thing cost £1.79 and whilst I have said my bit about adding P&P to final cost, I do believe she will neg for the bad packaging and for the fact that the seller stated it was to cover her ebay & payypal fees. Really very silly seller....
I was previously in disbelief that people would neg for P&P but with this seller and the way ebay is going these days nothing should surprise me anymore.....:o0 -
How anyone can neg people for pp charge is beyond me. It is stated clearly on the item, dont like it, dont buy - just so simple. I don't care if the pp is £10 and the item is £1 if it's cheaper than elsewhere. I would prefer it this way as everyone can save on fees and that could result in cheaper items. Dont let ebay fool you that it's wrong to do this.
I don't think it's silly that the seller are being honest to say that some of the pp charge goes towards the fees, I and many have done this. So the item arrived damaged or stained? If not then it's wrong for your friend to neg the seller. As long as the item arrived in one piece then the wrapping shouldn't really matter. One can give low rating for poor/dirty wrapping.0 -
A colleague of mine bought an item on ebay for £1.00, plus £7.99 p&p. He then offered to go pick the item up, which the seller agreed to. they then asked for £5 for the item! Now that is worth reporting. My suggestion and/or advice is my own and it is up to you if you follow it, please check the advice given before acting on it.0

One of the flaws of the DSR system is that while it includes P&P charges as a criterion, there is none for quality/ suitability of packaging. I don't think it's fair to neg a seller for p&p charges clearly stated before the purchase was made, but if the customer having received the package and looked at actual postage paid and quality of packing then decides it was worse value for money than expected, they can query this with the seller in the hope of a partial refund and/ or use the star ratings to express their opinion of the p&p charges. I don't think a customer buying a purse could realistically expect a £5 P&P charge to reflect accurately the actual P&P costs.0

Why stick up for ebay's (huge us corperation with suspect ethics) profits over some english person selling things to make ends meet?
Ebay is not God.
You do not have to be a blind follower."Love you Dave Brooker! x"

Also this is just marketing like buy one get one free.
Has your freind gone into a shop and offered to just have the free one?
The item was never really £1, just like the books on Amazon aren't really 1p and the stuff on the TV price drop channels are never £2.99 because theres £10 postage and a £1.50 phone call.

If you are not happy with the P&P and don't want to pay it you shouldn't bid on the item in the first place.
There are several more factors you could include when calculating your actual P&P costs, such as, the postage cost, packaging, cost of time to package and post, cost of travel to post office etc.0 -

No that's quite understandable. It costs a lot of time to wait around for someone and deal with the niceties of an in person transaction and associated arrangements. Usually much longer than just shipping it.
I charge double my P&P rate for anyone who requests a personal collection. And its cash only so no Paypal cover.0 -
Don't forget you are liable to pay paypal fees on the payment of the postage too. I aways uplist 5% to cover this.0
