Neg for Excessive Postage

I was selling an item with postage of £3.99 recorded delivery 2nd class....and had a potential buyer ask why postage was so high and I explained the weight of the skirt was heavy being wool and I posted the same skirt for £2.79 and wrapping and envelope cost £1.00 so in total £3.79 and I could remove the 20p difference but no less...and she went on that it was way too high etc. I then checked out her feedback and noticed that she had left negatives for high postage and even though she liked the item.....I hastily blocked her fom bidding....
A colleague bought a purse and was charged £5.00 for p&p and she asked why the postage was that high for a small purse and the seller said it was to cover her ebay & paypal fees, now my colleague is thinkiing about reporting her or just negging her...but I told her that she knew the p&p before bidding... and she said yes that she expected a nice package etc but it was wrapped up in some old wrapping paper no care taken etc....she was really dissapointed....
So is it fair to report seller to Ebay Trust & Safety or even to Neg....

Well I've bought a watch for 99p with p+p £8 before, but it was a nice watch. I think it's just if the product doesn't go for much, it's to make sure they get a reasonable price for it overall.
Sorry if that makes no sense whatsoever, I dont seem to be awake today.Undergrad law student. Take my advice with a pinch of salt! :rotfl:0 -

Was the purse damaged because of lack of packaging? Was she going to display the packaging? I think the seller was environmentally aware by using something that would do the job for a second time.
Your friend knew what the postage charge was, she obviously felt the item was worth it even with the postage factored in.0 -
You pay your money, you take your choice. Postage prices don't appear out of nowhere.
The thing many don't realise is they actually end up get the item cheaper as it puts people off bidding.0 -
I would Neg someone after the event if you have choose to buy the item, however if I was not satisfied that the P&P charges are not reflected in the way the item was sent, I would leave a low star rating for P&P charges. The only way of finding the limits of the possible is by going beyond them into the impossible.

Don't neg for the postage - you knew the total price when bidding and were clearly happy to pay that - actual postage cost is irrelevant.
However, if having paid a premium for postage, the item is not well packaged then that does deserve a neg.0 -
Why do so many people get hung up on P&P charges?
And then people moan about ebay fees:rolleyes:
It's all very very simple.
Look at the item and decide what the maximum amount is you would pay for it, then look at the P&P charges and deduct this amount and you have now arrived at your maximum bid.:cool:0 -

I agree and disagree with you - I thinkI do look at postage costs before bidding and my expectation is that it should cover costs (time, material used etc) and not be used to make a profit. It is unfair to say a buyer knows the costs when they bid so thats that. You are reliant on the seller asking reasonable costs, if I get an item and the postage is excessive I contact the seller ask for clarification and go from there. I have also done the same when purchasing from online shops, often they refund some of it.

Ebay have brainwashed the few users that are left that free postage is the norm in the mail order industry and that anyone who charges more than the stamps cost, is a theif.
Ebay likes "free" postage..."Love you Dave Brooker! x"

The p&p charges are listed for all to see so people cant really complain0

This is always the arguement...... You knew the postage before bidding
I must stress I wont leave a neg for high postage though, just mark down on star ratings...
But sellers standard rate is the grey area .........
Maybe sellers should be made to state the service being used
You dont know what postage they will be using until it arrives...
So £4 might seem fair enough if they used 1st class recorded......
Then the item arrives and 2nd class standard at a cost of £1.30ish.
You do find sellers hiding behind the sellers standard rate IMO
And lets not argue about contacting the seller..
Not possible if its a last minute decision.0
