Neg for Excessive Postage

  • The ebay policy is quite clear on this

    http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/policies/listing-shipping.html

Whilst I understand the arguments it does mean that anyone following the rules is at a disadvantage. I can understand why you would want to add a small amount to the total but the OP's friend was charged more than double.

Also no one makes us sell on ebay, we use it because we can normally get a better price on there for our items than we would anywhere else due to the amount of 'customers' they have

Not really, they give you 6 examples to show you what is reasonable/not reasonable.

So as long as we sell one of those 6 items and live right next door to the post office, and have a constant supply or reusable packaging then we know where we stand.

Over the last 2 years the nearest four post offices to me have been closed down.

The question was asked to ebay some time ago, and the response back was quite an eye-opener.

LOL. Pretty much what I had in mind.

I don't actually charge anything for my time, if I did I'd never sell anything as it's a 1 hour round trip on foot to the post office for me.

Someone sold me a £1 item with £2 postage the other day - it cost hom £3.79 in postage! I send him another couple of quid.
  • At the end of the day we all have a good idea what is reasonable.

If you have a justifiable reason for charging a little extra (i.e. location of the post office, type of packaging you are providing, etc) then why not be up front and state it in your listing.

I'm talking about the people who charge £5.00 P&P for something that cost £1.79.... I probably wouldn't be bothered about it if they added up to £1.

I have also sent more money to people have undercharged me and refunded money to people I've overcharged.

Perhaps I am wrong for wanting it to be fair for everyone ;)

I pad £8 postage for a mobile phone on ebay, at the time I did not consider it to be excessive, not knowing the weight or likely cost.

When it arrived with £1.50 postage sticker wrapped in recycled paper, I did feel conned. I didnt leave a negative but gave a low rating for postage and emailed the seller about how disappoined I felt.

They replied I knew the postage before buying which was true, but I also thought it was a reflective charge.

So if the seller uses Paypal postage or Smartstamp and chooses not to display the postage price, how does this affect matters?

If anyone did not know the actual stamp price of the item, would there be as many complaints I wonder?

  • The stamp still indicates the type of service used and the packaging will indicate the amount of money spent on it.

For instance, Mrs Moc could have been paying the 'Sellers Standard Rate' and assumed that, in order to get the correct level of cover for a mobile phone, she was paying £8 for Special Delivery and a jiffy bag which would have been reasonable

I have a feeling that no matter how long this is debated there will be no agreement :rotfl:
